In November, they voted for Trump. In February, he laid them off. For the next election, they're thinking Trump.

The entire business model of American R1 universities is not viable without restoration of federal funding, & every individual institution pretending it can solve this problem alone is also not viable. University presidents need to be speaking out, collectively & loudly about this, in DC, right now.

In the beforetimes a lot of this was just media spectacle, and the strategy of not becoming the lightning rod for the right was at least somewhat viable. That's not what's going on anymore, and institutions have not adjusted.

I continue to believe this idiot decided America was never richer than in the gilded age because someone showed him pictures of all the robber baron mansions.

Newspaper stories describe people as "computer whiz" or "brilliant" but you read into it and...they seem like they're very dumb and don't know anything about computers? www.wsj.com/us-news/zizi...

Also, this is a *perfect example* of the kind of bureaucratic layer that makes actually doing things in government sometimes hard! Do you a VA nurse spending her time providing health care or writing Elon an email about “What I Did Last Week”?

As I explain in this piece, Musk trying to create relentless weekly metrics for public servants is a catastrophic management decision, which will force short term thinking and undermine long term resilience. The government is completely unlike Twitter or a rocket. www.forkingpaths.co/p/doge-and-t...

Sent to all of HHS/NIH as well. It’s purely meant to intimidate and to make them question their self worth. apple.news/An1zUSES4QKq...

I expect some universities will forgo federal grants if indirect costs are fixed at 15%, and if there are no compensatory changes on what are allowed as direct costs. On top of that, proposed cuts to NIH and NSF budgets will mean US cannot continue to lead in cutting edge research.

“Remember, I can do whatever I want to whomever I want.” It sounds like President Trump, to the world. But it was Caligula, to his grandmother. Megalomaniacs end badly. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/o...

This fucking madness MUST stop. Our national security is at risk for the jollies of two imbecilic lunatics.

1. REACTED [NOFORN] 2. REDACTED [ORCON] 3. REDACTED [SI/TK] 4. REDACTED [HCS-O] 5. Responded to this stupid fucking email

‘Ukraine started the war’ is the new ‘The election was stolen’ Pay attention.

If DOGE sends $5,000 checks, accept the check. Then (if you have the means) donate it to a candidate in your district running against a Trump sycophant. Donate to charities for workers. Imagine if millions of folks donated all or a portion of DOGE monies for the next election cycle or charities.

…and you have drugs to take and medical procedures that cure you from diseases and save your life because of the #NIH and the #NSF!

From the last King of America. (Spoiler alert: Didn’t turn out well for him either)

The reply email inbox for this “what did you do last week” email is [email protected], so, you know, definitely don’t send them any unrelated messages that would interfere with their ability to carry out Elon’s dumbass bullshit

We r an unserious country.

Email doesn’t list that you’ll be fired if you don’t respond. Elon’s Twitter post suggests that it will be taken as a resignation. Very low likelihood this holds up.

Let’s be 100% clear. The postal service is literally in the Constitution, explicitly assigned as a congressional power. If Congress wants to abolish or privatize it, that’s up to Congress. The President can’t just wake up one day and do it on his own.

If you want to run for local office, @runforsomething.net is here to help you. Look up what office you can run for at runforwhat.net -- our next intro call is Tuesday night.

This is the use of US power to serve Musk's interests

77M Americans are culpable for giving this imbecilic lunatic power.

For those wanting facts versus mal-information from govt officials: Truman relieved MacArthur after he disobeyed several orders, 1 which almost led to World War III w/ China. Obama accepted McChrystal’s resignation when he took responsibility for disrespecting the president’s team to the press.

Community Notes was a figleaf to cover the conversion of X into a disinformation machine. Now even that figleaf will be removed.

Trump tried a seizure of power in 2021. It didn't work, because he relied only on a violent mob. The military and FBI stayed loyal to the Constitution. This time, with approval of the Republican Senate, Trump has installed anti-constitutional putschists at FBI, DoD, and Pentagon

Federal employees are now being told they will be fired if they do not reply to a guy who does not respond to the Moms of his kids.

One caution about federal employees sharing Musk's emails. He has claimed that he has embedded watermarks in such emails to find leakers. (Though this probably won't work for more than a few thousand employees). theintercept.com/2022/12/15/e...

But why? It’s a mystery!

I’ve long believed that the American media would be more clear-eyed about the return and actions of wanna-be dictator Donald Trump and the coup by Musk if it was happening overseas in a foreign country. Here's the story the US should be writing this weekend: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/king-donal...

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

So Mad King Elon posted this about two hours ago and I've now seen one of the actual emails. Not going to mention the agency my source works out. But suffice it to say it's entirely shuttered. So everyone there was forced to stop working more than a week ago. The actual email is one is that in ...

This is how I would respond to the email Musk has had sent to government employees (not legal advice). 1. Refused to violate the law. 2. Refused to violate the Constitution. 3. Refused to bow or scrape. 4. Refused to bend a knee. 5. Deleted this stupid email.

Now that Trump has ousted Brown, and the heads of the Navy and Coast Guard, the remaining top military leaders are all white and male, particularly striking given that minorities make up nearly 40 percent of the military and women constitute fully a fifth. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/king-donal...

Someone’s lying here, big time. And just this once, I don’t think it’s Trump.

After a college student finally found a treatment that worked, the insurance giant decided it wouldn’t pay for the costly drugs. His fight to get coverage exposed the insurer’s hidden procedures for rejecting claims. (Published Feb. 2023)

No doubt last night’s purge reflects racism and misogyny. But those wrongs are just a cover for the far more serious evils and dangers that exist here.
