Our water is filthy. It's time to float the idea of renationalisation

Perils of privatizing the NHS and chase for profits Botched cataract surgeries, lack of after care. People blinded. Performing unnecessary operations. Inflating costs for the NHS. Profiteering Serious concerns about patient safety. Expand NHS capacity, don't privatise. archive.ph/a94C2

"That's stupid." @carladenyer.bsky.social explains some of the changes that could be made to our energy market to bring down bills and emissions.

Hey fellow Blueskyers - if there are council elections in your area this 1st May, PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE. Farage is trying to up the number of Reform councillors and we don't want that to happen!

I’ve been asked to contribute an essay to an upcoming anthology on breakdown and collapse, my focus will be on the UK’s 74 SEZs and 12 Freeports through the lens of societal and political implosion. Yay, I’m going to be published!

Once again it's time to understand what SEZs are. Strikes are not permitted in SEZ's, corporate taxes slashed, environmental assaults, migrant workers replacing locals avoiding awarding long term contracts and/or educating youth, negative impacts on farming www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzd9...

60% of UK households own pets & 3.2 million were bought during lockdown, and we’re 10% short on vets because of Brexit. Brexit end of Freedom of Movement caused EU vet inflows to drop by 68%. UK faces shortage of vets thanks to Brexit and boom in pet ownership www.thetimes.com/article/16a9...

Britain has for too long had a bad lurgy, the Murdoch Empire has abused its position for far too long. Thanks to Gordon Brown, Prince Harry and others this lurgy continues to be exposed to the light. “… we were dealing with a criminal-media nexus.” www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

They made us ashamed of freedom of movement — and now even youth mobility supporters tiptoe around it. Enough. Visa-free travel is a right worth fighting for. Let’s say it loud: freedom of movement matters. #Brexit

This is what a rigged economy looks like: In the 1970s, CEOs made 27 times more than the average worker. In the 1980s, CEOs made 48 times more than the average worker. This decade, CEOs are making 354 times more than the average worker. That has got to change.

Labour plans £4.5bn in benefit cuts by 2030 – mostly from sick & disabled people. 1.3m could lose life-sustaining support. This isn't reform. It's abandonment. Charlie Hallam reports #PIP

My city is looking beautiful at this time of year. Not piles of bin bags, #THISisBirmingham #Birmingham @cotteridgepark.bsky.social

Restoring free movement between UK and Europe is too important to be sacrificed to the security agenda and we don’t need to. Remove all temporary visitors (including students) from the immigration count (like all other sensible countries do). #newsnight

For #worldpenguinday, if you've never heard a penguin being tickled before, here's a penguin being tickled.🔊🆙

While the Labour government vows to cut regulations ensuring yet more workers die doing their daily job "Every year on April 28th, all around the world, the trade union movement unites to mark International Workers’ Memorial Day" #IWMD25. Find an event near you www.megaphone.org.uk/calendars/wo...

Is it time to take key sectors of the economy into public ownership? With Trump's tariffs, climate & technological change industries are in transition. For the govt. to deliver an industrial strategy, doesn't it need its hands on the wheel? ❓asks @unitesharon.bsky.social

Dear studio execs. Without writers you don’t have TV shows, dramas or sitcoms. Without writers you have nothing. You paid the mechanic who fixed your car, paid for your groceries, expect teachers and medical staff to be paid. Writing’s a highly skilled job. Pay writers! #ScriptSkyUK #ScriptSky

The cartoon sums it up. But the reporting and editorials do not. The Times urges govt to do a deal with the US “urgently” but fails to explain to its readership what we stand to lose if we do. Maybe if the right hadn’t peddled Brexit so furiously and dishonestly, we wouldn’t now be on our knees.

Audience numbers and ticket sales have both surpassed pre-pandemic levels according to new figures that point to an "encouraging" sector bounce back. Read more 👉 www.thestage.co.uk/news/aud...

☀️ Brexit the Elephant is getting ready for his summer holidays 🏝️ by practising standing in long queues. “I don’t suppose anyone will realise they’re in this big queue because of me”, he mumbled to himself, quietly. #BrexitTheElephant #ExitBrexit #SaveFOM

Clive Lewis, "The EU is our biggest trading partner, it's right on our doorstep" "The Trump regime is a proto fascist regime" "The version of democracy the Trump administration is moving to is a darker one, a dystopian one, and it's not one that I want to see the UK move towards"

Private shareholders made dividends of £3.6 billion from owning our trains in the last decade. Yet the government is leaving our trains fully privately owned. Sign We Own It's petition to demand they take our trains into public ownership: weownit.org.uk/act-now/take...

31 per cent of my constituents are living with someone who is disabled and many have written to me terrified that their ability to live could be ripped away. Why is Labour cracking down on the people who are already struggling so much?👇 www.theargus.co.uk/news/2509169...

🚅Want to end the Great British Train Robbery? ✍️It only takes 1 minute to sign our petition. 🤑The rolling stock companies have made £3.6 billion in dividends over the past decade. Now's the perfect time to demand they take our trains into public ownership.

Reeves flies to US to push Trump to sign trade agreement. Within the EU the UK had access to the biggest market. After Brexit it scavenges for deals, any deal. Parliament must debate and have a free vote on any deal with Trump. Must rejoin the EU.

First episode of Joe Lycett’s United States of Birmingham now available on Sky Max & NOW TV! Brilliant stuff, Joe! Great to see all those Birminghams on telly and not a mention of bins! 😂 We ♥️ Brum(s!) #Birmingham #BirminghamUK #Brum #Brummies #BrumBins #PositiveSWBrum

Had a nice day staring into Joe Lycett's Brum Hole

Strikes, cuts, bankruptcy. What I wouldn't give to relive that hopeful summer of 2022. Unfortunately the Commonwealth Games opening and closing ceremonies aren't on iPlayer. How do we get them back?

How to fix the bin strikes? Have waste collection centrally managed across the region by the WMCA. Shared fleet, incinerators, recycling processing. Maximum efficiency. Larger scale = commercial operations selling recycled plastic, compost etc to sustainable manufacturers.

Really appreciate when theatres provide script feedback as most don’t, but it’s concerning when it’s clearly AI-generated. While AI is out there repurposing art, writers should feel able to submit their work without fearing it’ll be fed into machines. Please stop doing this.

The Great Gatsby was published in April 1925 and tmrw in April 2025 we begin rehearsals for a new stage adaptation of this story of class, hope and how no matter how hard you try the establishment just won’t let you in. Catch it at Pitlochry Festival Theatre and then @derbytheatre.bsky.social

Surge in England coastlines, rivers and lakes with unsafe levels of E coli and intestinal enterococci due to sewage dumping. All done to boost profits, dividends, exec pay. Water industry controlled by companies with 1,135 criminal convictions. No director prosecuted. End the scam. Nationalise.

Labour ministers are apparently ruling out scrapping the two-child benefit cap - in other words, choosing to keep 600,000 children in poverty. Meanwhile govt refuses to consider a wealth tax which could £24bn. Hard to find the words for this level of unnecessary cruelty.

I love Rose ♥️ 🌹

Despite going to Birmingham regularly, I’ve not had chance to go and see @durandurancom.bsky.social blue plaque in Birmingham until today! #duranie

I’m ready to help government understand how loss of freedom of movement has impacted people. And ready to work with any MP or Peer that wants to do so.
