Go Jets go! #WinnipegJets

Reflections of steel.

"FRESH" A Bombardier Flexity streetcar crosses busy Spadina Avenue in Toronto.

Photo taken this day, 2002 - my first model railway layout, the Nova Scotia Eastern Railway, under construction. The NSER was a great learning experience and I enjoyed its brief existence. We moved in September 2004 and I tore it down, to be replaced by the next layout in a few years.

It’s been said many times that the treaties supersede the separatists. Alberta simply can’t leave without support from treaty signatories. And today, Chief Billy-Joe Tuccaro of the Mikisew Cree Nation made it clear. It’s a hard no. #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

The sun wasn't up yet, but the trains roll 24/7. A CPKC crew has finished working the Paterson grain terminal outside Winnipeg and are returning to their train to continue westward. 2025/02/08.

I've had this multimeter for decades. I've used it many, many times, testing continuity in my model railway, checking batteries, making sure there's no power in outlets or light sockets, and on and on. It's not a complicated tool but it's been rock solid reliable. Buy good tools. They're worth it.

As Coca-Cola said, way back when, "it's the paws that refreshes."

What a wonderful photo. The Duomo is amazing and I love this view of it.

Taken this day, 2014 - a CP train heading south out of Winnipeg, crossing the Floodway. They would stop a mile or so south of here in Grande Pointe to take the siding, after the conductor and engineer both chipped the ice out of the switch points. blog.traingeek.ca/2014/03/fore...

Taken this day, 2018. Freshly fallen snow, a road not yet plowed, two trains passing under a blue sky. A good outing.

Back when cowls still roamed the main line. Taken this day (March 4) in 2018, in Winnipeg, CANADA, not that long ago, when you think of it. CN 2406 was only 28 years old at the time of this photo, but in two years it was down in Centralia IL on the dead line, and was sold to K&K Recycling.

Hey @bsky.app followers. I’m here checking this out. I’m a journalist with @cbcnews.ca Follow me! And tell me who I should be following!

I'll never forgive Diefenbaker for this. Canada had such an opportunity.

BAM!

This is well worth a read.

I was out yesterday morning, photographing some trains with the film camera I received for Christmas. I can't share those photos with you because, hey, they're still on the film in the camera! Progress! Anyway, I first photographed the train with my fancy digital camera as it approached me.

Amtrak Perryville, Maryland October 12, 2024 The setting sun glints off the Susquehanna River as an Amtrak train heads north on the 1906-vintage swing bridge.

There's a peculiar little "wobble" in the CN tracks just west of Elie, Manitoba. The two parallel main lines diverge, then come back together, for no apparent reason at all. But there is a reason. At one time there was a third track in the middle, a siding, if you will, shared between the two.

You can feel SECURE knowing that CN 2245 was in control of this westbound train through Elie, Manitoba.

Nighttime on the Northside. With the end of Montana Rail Link closing in, SD70ACe 4310 rests at the roundhouse on a quiet night in Missoula’s Northside neighborhood. Ilford HP5 Nikon F3 #montana #montanaraillink #missoula #analogphotography #filmphotography #railroad #railroadphotography

Taken this day, 2014 - CN sent a spreader from Winnipeg to plow the Letellier subdivision. It wasn't plowing much here, just south of St. Norbert, but it was still a thrill to see this antique machine in action.

It was cold this morning, with the wind blowing steadily from the west "30 gusting to 50 km/hr". I just knew it was cold on my hands as I faced the wind with camera in hand. I often wonder what the crew, snug in their warm cab, think of people like me who like photographing trains in poor weather.

Taken this day, 2013 - CN 2562 leads a westbound train past the signals at Carman Junction in Winnipeg. The manual switch stand to the right of the train shows where the branch curves off to head to, well, Carman. The branch is now owned by the Central Manitoba Railway (CEMR).

Although America (the band) and Duran Duran made wildly different music, their approach to lyrics was similar - words that sound good together, not necessarily making any sense. “Tin Man” vs. “The Reflex”, the tropic of Sir Galahad vs watching over lucky clover, beautifully senseless lyrics.

Worcester at sunset with the Conrail heritage unit hanging out in the yard. Fun times. I can't decide if I prefer the wide yard view with or without the chainlink fence.

Today in 2001 - It was a beautiful winter day in the railway town of McAdam, New Brunswick. We checked out the aged ex Southern Pacific GP9 and Maine Central boxcars still bearing that great pine tree logo. A good outing.

Paul: Woke up, fell out of bed Dragged a comb across my head Found my way downstairs and drank a cup And looking up I noticed I was late Found my coat and grabbed my hat Made the bus in seconds flat Found my way upstairs and had a smoke Somebody spoke and I went into a dream 1/4

20 years ago today: Returning from a medical appointment in Halifax, I decided to stop in Amherst, NS to catch the "Ocean" and to take a break from driving in the snowstorm. Despite the white-knuckle driving, these remain two of my favourite photos of the "Ocean".

This day in 2016. On the left, a merchandise train departing Winnipeg, a high green signal giving permission to continue onto the Sprague subdivision toward Ontario. On the right, the then-standard set of two tired GP38-2 locomotives bracketing a pair of engineless slugs, in hump yard service.

Taken this day, 2016 - VIA Rail's westbound "Canadian" is taking its station stop in Winnipeg, Manitoba on a brisk winter morning.

Taken this day, TODAY - KCS 4730 and CP 8207 led a rather short freight train through Meadows toward Winnipeg on a blustery winter's morn. In an era of miles-long trains, this 36-car train is a bit unusual.

On this day, 2014: I was chasing an eastbound New Brunswick Southern Railway freight train from Grand Bay-Westfield into Saint John, NB. This is the Westfield Beach overpass, one of the few places on the line where you can get an overhead view. More here: blog.traingeek.ca/2014/12/an-n...

Taken this day, 2019: After landing in Moncton, I drove east to Halifax, pausing along the way to reacquaint myself with a few train stations along the way. Old friends. Sackville NB, built 1907 Amherst NS, built 1908 Brookfield NS, built 1938 The first two are still VIA Rail stops.
