How do leaf cell types respond to drought, and how does this vary among leaves of a rosette? Single-nucleus RNA seq of 600+ individual leaves along a drought time course

Stress drives plasticity in leaf maturation transcriptional dynamics https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2025.02.24.639183v1

Alright so to brighten the mood... Who's ready for another iteration of 28 Days, 28 Black Plant Scientists/Botanists? 💪🏾🌱 For those that want more background here's a link from last yr. While I search through names myself, I'm happy to hear any nominations via DM/email! plantae.org/2024-black-h...

Happy to share our latest @biorxiv-plants.bsky.social led by @manuelgonzalezfuen.bsky.social “Effector-triggered processing body formation attenuates host translation via ER stress responses and autophagy upon bacterial infection” #proteostasis #plantimmunity 🧵(1/16) www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

It was a pleasure contributing to this work. It was stunning to observe the spatial results after each experiment!

Announcing a curated collection of long-read genomes for Arabidopsis thaliana: The 1001 Genomes Plus Project. Currently 453 unique accessions/almost 600 assemblies. Interested in contributing? Please contact us! #plantscience www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Preprint alert, please share!! With our new study, we engineered an orthogonal hypoxia-responsive system in plants inspired by mammalian HIF protein degradation. We demonstrated that this system could control protein stability and activity, enabling modulation of Oxygen sensing outputs. Here's how:

AtSDR4L and paralog promote seed-to-seedling transition in multiple seed compartments https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2024.11.29.626136v1

I am looking for a speaker for the "Plant Gene Expression Analysis" workshop at the PAG32 conference in January. There are no funds to support speakers unfortunately. Other confirmed speakers are @tralee-sci.bsky.social, Colleen Doherty and Ronan O'Malley. Please message me if you are interested!

Very happy to share that our latest publication on the evolution of C4 photosynthesis is out now. It was such a pleasure working with the amazing Joseph Swift, Joe Ecker, @tinaschreier.bsky.social, and @jmhibberd.bsky.social. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Exaptation of ancestral cell-identity networks enables C4 photosynthesis www.nature.com/articles/s41... New from the Ecker lab in collaboration with the Hibberd lab. Congrats all!

Reskeeting due to large influx of new folks

It was only a matter of time before hypoxia and biotic crosstalk was discovered, somewhat converging on ERF-VII regulation. Outstanding Qs: how do hypoxic conditions alter bacterial interactions with plants? Obligate aerobes vs facultative anaerobes? www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

A novel function of HLS1 in autophagosome formation in Arabidopsis. Interestingly the role of HLS1 in autohpagy is completely unlinked from it's well known role in apical hook formation academic.oup.com/plcell/advan...

Low N conditions promote the sink-to-source transition of older leaves, yet how is this process regulated in an age-dependent manner? Long range movement of the root derived lncRNA ELENA1 attenuates leaf senescence in younger leaves www.nature.com/articles/s41...
