What would happen if DOGE deleted all of the social security data? Like, once it’s gone, it’s gone. Are there protections against this kind of situation?

This is part of an ideological agenda that has nothing to do with waste, fraud, or abuse. Curtis Yarvin believes the NIH is part of the “Cathedral,” which creates the state and its culture. They’re doing exactly what they mean to do: dismantling the state, one piece at a time, at our expense.

Berkeley at twilight is indistinguishable from Lothlorien at twilight and thankfully also Peter Thiel has not ruined it by naming a company after it so far

Reduction in force at the Social Security Administration by FIFTY PERCENT. People just aren’t ever going to be able to claim it anymore, forget cutting social security itself.

I don’t get how people think billionaires are gonna save them. If they were truly that selfless wouldn’t they merely be multimillionaires *at most*? A billion dollars has nine zeros in it.

Someone vandalized my car while I was sleeping at my girlfriend’s house last night, and my only reactions are: I understand why they’re so angry, I am too; and also they’ve done absolutely nothing to hurt Elon but certainly scared this queer lady.

Just a quick shout-out to my parents’ state delegate, @ebpforva.bsky.social, for kindly emailing me back in under two hours and offering assistance. If any of y’all are in Northern Virginia, give her a follow!

One of my resolutions this year is to be positive but not toxically positive and here’s today’s dose of positivity.

@dinahfay.bsky.social hiiiii i was thinking about going to Netroots this year and it made me think of you

Mainstream news isn’t yet reporting that there was a note threatening four pipe bombs targeting specific individuals at this conference. Enrique Tarrio was also there, threatening the police officers who testified against him for his role on January 6th.

I needed these happy tears today.

I found this vaguely reassuring in these challenging times: we aren’t in a dictatorship, but a kleptocracy. www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8YGoWqJ/

I'm spooning out the 🥄 memes today in support of civil servants. Rosie the Riveter comes from Richmond, California, and the all-hands-on-deck effort to fight fascism during World War II, so this seems a good re-use, particularly as DOGE tries to erase women from US government websites.

Apparently federal workers have taken to responding to Elon's "fork in the road" email with 🥄 spoon emojis, the symbol of the resistance.

Politicians who don’t have it in themselves to do what is needful should resign and make room for people with courage.

I hadn’t realized the extent to which fear for their lives is motivating Senate Republicans to vote to confirm Trump’s nominees. Our ancestors went to war and risked their lives for this democracy and we can’t seem to count on our elected officials to do the same. www.vanityfair.com/news/story/t...

I had to go check the date on the article just to make sure this wasn’t a resurrection of past news.

That this country has come apart at the seams may be the most optimistic telling of this part of history. What will historians make of this period of time? It’s all just so completely off the rails and weird and surreal. Am I in a story by Borges?

EXCLUSIVE: A federal worker at the EPA sent an incredible email to Administrator Lee Zeldin. He's refused to stay silent, and has asked me to share the email - and his name - with the public. My latest: www.muellershewrote.com/p/exclusive-...

Is the GOP really comfortable being the party of Nazi salutes? Where is AIPAC in this conversation, or the ADL?

New nickname for Elon Musk post-CPAC appearance: kleptamine.

Got a tip that police were escorting people out of the Office of the Federal Register and/or the Government Publishing Office (same building) in DC at 2:30am with full trash bags. That can’t be good.

—hear me, Congress? You’ve been in a coma for a month now. I just need you to wake up so badly. Please, wake up, just please wake up, we need you, things are getting really—

I wonder how the Trump Administration plans to deal with finding new employment for the millions of civil servants losing their jobs in places like Kansas City, which don’t have enough job openings to accommodate them all. Autocracy requires pacifying people — usually means keeping them employed.

So I’m a literal rocket scientist (specifically, GN&C, which means we do most of the math). The little I know about airplanes comes from studying for a private pilot exam (I didn’t finish). Trust me, you don’t want a rocket scientist running the FAA anymore than you’d want a neuroscientist doing it.

This is such a huge milestone. That burn ain’t easy.

There’s a special election for Matt Gaetz’s old seat, FL-1, on April 1st. The Dem running is Gay Valimont, formerly the head of Moms Demand Action Florida. We are only a few seats from flipping the House *this year*, so I just donated $250. Join me?

This is an incredible piece of art.

Umm

Polarization: too broad a brush. New terms: overthreat and undertrust. Also, most of the American public isn’t polarized, just our political leaders. thefulcrum.us/bridging-com...

Scoop: The databases powering DOGE.gov are insecure, and people outside the government have already pushed their own updates to the site to prove it: www.404media.co/anyone-can-p...

This should be exceedingly obvious, but when Stonewall stays up while references to trans people come down, they will measure the silence of cisgender people as concurrence for whatever they plan next, and it still won't protect you in the end. So please get loud. Our mutual survival depends on it.

Democrats: Sheldon Whitehouse, Michael Bennet, Richard Blumenthal, Chris Coons, Andy Kim, Brian Schatz, Adam Schiff (clearly we should have voted for Barbara Lee or Katie Porter, Californians), Elissa Slotkin, and Mark Warner. What were they thinking?

People should know this happened. These senators don’t seem to know they work for us anymore.

My flight tonight is from gate 12B to gate B12. Clearly the stars are aligned; Mercury is in gatorade.

I am eager to fly back from LA to SF tonight, where it will still be cold but at least it’s supposed to be that way

Calling myself a simp for her, now that would be Gen Z

I might have also been trying to say “whipped,” idk

Today because of Valentine’s my doctor asked me about my girlfriend. I was like “she’s got me totally beat.” He was like what gen z slang is this, and I was like, “yo dawg I’m the same age as you (forty), I just can’t remember the word for smitten because we old,” and he was like, “too real.”

Need this text on a car magnet: Hey like I’m just a pro-climate trans girl, I got a Tesla back in 2018 for the full self driving so my narcolepsy wouldn’t kill anyone, can we please not just go around smashing people’s cars willy nilly? I can’t afford a new car right now and I didn’t know the CEO wa

Huh they forgot one
