This sign really effectively captures the feeling of voting in this provincial election

Been a good week for snowflakes

Taking a moment to breathe and watch the pearly clouds go by (on Mars). www.nasa.gov/missions/mar...

NASA employees were sent this email verbatim today from our acting director.

Love it when Curiosity sends back images of wispy clouds in the martian sky... Sol 4423 image Credits: NASA/JPL-Caltech/S Atkinson

There is nothing like the arrival of the mid-month Queer as Fact episode to startle me into remembering the passage of time

Folks, a huge number of people at JPL have been affected by the LA wildfires, with many losing their homes. If you can, consider contributing to a fund that's been set up to help them: (Link looks sketch but site is legit) caltech.imodules.com/controls/ema...

Check out this blog post by Alex Innanen @transmartian.bsky.social on observations of noctilucent clouds by the Mars rover Curiosity science.nasa.gov/blog/sols-44... #Mars 🧪 #planetaryscience

It's important to take bad phone photos of the moon sometimes for your health

For martian cloud fans, some more (older) (less visually spectacular) clouds* ☁️ *research note contains no pictures of clouds, only graphs about them #PlanetaryScience

Solstice activities included baking a saffron cake to lure the sun back. It did still vanish at 16:40 this afternoon so we'll have to see if it indeed returns tomorrow...

We are SO back!

Just in time for this Mars year's twilight cloud season, here's a new paper led by Mark Lemmon about cloud iridescence we've seen at Gale. If you read none of it, at least admire the pretty pictures. #planetaryscience agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/...

Nice Mustache! This image covers Swiss cheese terrain, which is so named due to the circular pits formed by seasonally sublimating carbon dioxide ice. Sometimes the pits join or connect, forming other shapes. uahirise.org/hipod/ESP_08... NASA/JPL-Caltech/University of Arizona #Mars #science

Hubble Jupiter images in the UV suggest polar hazes are stirred by a vortex created by mag field interactions with the ionosphere and Jupiter's moon Io! A cool new UV view of this giant planet (image credit: T. Tsubota & M. Wong, UC Berkeley) See links in next comment for details . . .

This Suprahorizon Movie was taken on Sol 1302 (2016-04-04) at approximately 8:26 LTST and a solar longitude of 132.52°. See the animated movie on Tumblr!

Tried a garden experiment this year of planting saffron which did not grow for about two months after I planted it and then decided that mid-to-late november was the perfect time to produce blooms and now I have aproximately five (5) majestic threads of saffron

It's Mars Year 38! Happy Martian New Year 🎉 🔭

Science buildings welcoming committee

Definitely amongst the more 'Alex-core' photos I've ever taken

New paper on dust opacity measured over almost 5.5 Mars years (wow) from MSL, led by the wonderful (but not on bsky) Grace Bischof. The cool new finding is that with so much data, we can start to see day-to-day variability by season. Paper is open access. dx.doi.org/10.1029/2024... #planetaryscience

I've never seen a black fox in 29 years of living in the bluffs but I've seen this guy twice this week on campus

Heading down to the lake to see the aurora two days post-op is definitely part of the recovery plan right?

I do love a sunset gradient

Yes I did sit down immediately upon getting this email so I could read the full report in its entirety. Happy Gender Census Results to those celebrating

There's a bit of my moon missing 🔭

Average day on the TTC

The European Space Agency's JUICE spacecraft flew past the Moon earlier today & just sent back some wonderfully spooky selfies. (HT Daniel Fischer for processing) 🧪🔭

My friend, as we're being gently rained on: I wonder if there will be a rainbow? The sky, about 1.5 hours later:

The Southern Floor of Gale Crater This image along the southern interior floor of Gale Crater hosts many different landforms. This small crater is filled with an enigmatic deposit that appears to have flowed into the crater from the south. uahirise.org/hipod/ESP_04... NASA/JPL/University of Arizona
