One of the things that is very important to us here at Northsky is making all of the technical stuff around atproto easier and more understandable for all people. You shouldn’t have to be a developer to build on atproto, and that starts with clear explainers and continues with user-friendly tools.

It seems there are concerns popping up because individuals are alleging that we are not hosting our PDS in Canadian data centers based on running an nslookup command on northskysocial.com (nslookup is short for nameserver lookup - a nameserver is the server that hosts your domain DNS record).

Q: Can I create a new account on Northsky Social instead of migrating my Bluesky Social account? A: Yes! If you're not ready to trust us with your main account yet, you can create an new one, and then when you're ready you can migrate your main (or not!). This is about freedom of choice for hosts.

Q: Some more technically minded folks were wondering if you have to be on the Northsky PDS to eventually benefit from a Northsky App + appview. A: No, we see no reason to require people to be on our PDS to use our appview. We want folks to be able to use Bluesky's or Self-Host if they so desire.
