Well, that sucks. :(

damn, can't believe I left this setting on all this time

It's willingly ignorant to assign blame for AAA games studios being shuttered at anything other than corporate mismanagement and incompetence from an avaricious executive class. This is an industry where corporate suits saw monkey jpegs and thought "Yes, this is the future of gaming!"

How to see the planetary parade. I'll be watching the telly. 🔭 🧪 www.bbc.co.uk/news/videos/...

I suppose the one thing Bezos is right about is that "you have the freedom to do what I pay you to do or piss off" is indeed the American way. 😂

For comparison, iPhones usually get around 5-6 years of updates, so it's good to see that the only constraining factor for Android now are perhaps the carriers & device manufacturers.

the CDC has stopped reporting poster's madness counts now the only reliable metric is the wastewater from the discovery feed

It works almost as slowly as I did as a kid when my parents asked me to clean my room. 🤣 If it can wash and dry a dish without breaking it, and vacuum a flight of stairs without ending up in a heap at the bottom of it, *then* I'll be impressed.

This is your regular reminder that government mandated backdoors for end-to-end encrypted comms are bullshit, make everyone less safe, and should be resisted at maximum volume.

If anyone has access to the Marco Rubio cable banning trans athletes from US entry and targeting trans people's visas, please message me. The wording of the reporting here is very vague on if this will apply to ALL trans entrants or only athletes. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

I'm not looking forward to all the security vulnerabilities that are going to emerge in programs written by people that never understood what the code did in the first place or which library maintainers need to hear about their bugs.

For people who missed the announcement, Starmer just pledged 2.5% GDP on defence by 2027, and 3% "in the next parliament". There's also a plan to boost intelligence services & "rebuild our industrial base". I guess we'll find out in the fullness of time what else is being cut & if taxes will rise.

I think it's symptomatic of what's wrong with Starmer's government that they're switching to clean energy by 2030 to resolve this problem in the long term (yay!) but doing very little to soften the short term pain inflicted on everyone before then (boo!). www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

It's not ideal that this is what the French President and British Prime Minister are going to have to contend with this week. 😂 The potentially impossible task they've been given is to convince Trump that treating Ukraine like a doormat and ignoring Europe isn't good foreign policy.

My contribution to "left wingers alienate working class men by telling them to check their privilege" discourse is it just doesn't happen IRL. 🤷‍♂️ What *does* happen is right-wing sources fear-mongering about an imaginary cult of radical pedants who destroy peoples' reputations for minor infractions.

You're plugged in and have heard comparisons of DOGE and Gamergate in passing. I took a deeper dive — but still a short, breezy read — explaining how it goes much deeper than a comparison. Gamergate was whiner boot camp. DOGE is the Loser Invasion. www.salon.com/2025/02/24/w...

Merz just said on German TV that the primary priority of his government will be to ensure that Europe can achieve full strategic independence from the United States in the defence against Russia. Merz was once a die hard Atlanicist. Now, after Trump he is a Gaullist. Extraordinary.

TIL that I can blow an American’s mind by confirming that, despite it being 80 years since the end of WWII, we still find undetonated ordinance from that war every few months, and controlled explosions happen so regularly that we basically view them as normal.

The slow, slow road back to sanity…. we hope…. A functioning, cooperative relationship with our own continent, rather than an idiotic and dangerous ‘tilting’ towards a USA that absolutely cannot be trusted. (Letter in the Times)

The media needs to stop platforming extremists, and mainstream political parties need to stop pandering to extremists. We only need look at what's happening across the pond to understand where it leads.

I am always saying this

The fact that a trans woman is in a British newspaper calling JK Rowling a witch is making me squeal with laughter haha - British libel laws mean we can’t talk so openly here but since Vera’s American she can say what she likes

most of the return-to-office mandates come from a similar place: managers who need to justify their own existence. because let's be real — if you can't rely on adults to work well from home, you did a shitty job of hiring.

Anyone who has considered diversity and implemented it knows it improves quality: syllabi with diverse and inclusive reading lists are stronger, diverse teams perform better, in admissions it is students w a marginalized background that often go far. We are sliding into a monotonous mediocrity.

Apparently bridges to external services hosted on matrix .org will be disappearing next month, because they’re basically running out of money. 👀 One wonders why the for-profit arm called Element isn’t making up the shortfall… 🤔 matrix.org/blog/2025/02...

I'm a voice actress now :)

I suppose it's a good thing that I've been moving my personal computing off Apple stuff over the last 3-4 months.

I'm remaining cautious, because there's still time for Labour to u-turn if the Brexit headbangers throw all of their toys out of the pram about it. This is an easy win for both sides, and as someone that benefited from an Erasmus placement myself, I think next generation should get the same chance.

Blaming the left for the rise of the far right instead of the centrists that have absorbed their policies and rhetoric and shifted everything rightward how very Guardian

"Ukraine is Europe's war!" Interesting, I don't remember Europe saying "Afghanistan is America's war" when the US government invoked article 5 after the 9/11 attacks. 🤔

When similar thoughts creep into my head, I usually look at the clock and realise I should've gone to bed an hour ago. 😴

Amazing. “What we’re up against.” 🤷‍♀️. You ask for subscriptions to fight hate and lies - but at least once a week, you publish Sonia Sodha pursuing her personal bigotry against the trans population @guardiannewstoday.bsky.social

Uber, Lyft, and the like should be illegal - only licensed, regulated taxi services should be legal. I've had too many low-quality, even dangerous experiences with rideshares. I had to call the police on one following a ride where they fully stopped on the median between a highway and the offramp.
