This is devastating. My heart is with Representative Hortman’s family and loved ones, and I’m praying for Senator Hoffman and his wife. Political violence, of any kind, is never acceptable, and it must not be normalized.

So proud to be a part of this amazing morning. Location ocean beach San Francisco #nokings

Our local police did a great job. Peaceful.

Live look at Detroit, Michigan. Let's go, Motor City! Even Fox's streaming channel is calling the No Kings Day rallies "massive." 🍿

Update: Over 7.2 million and counting across the country for the No Kings protest!!

Minnesota’s flags will fly at half staff in honor and remembrance of Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman. She woke up every morning determined to make Minnesota a better place, and she will be greatly missed.

Boston showed up for No Kings Day!

Dallas turned out with at least 10,000 marching for #NoKingsDay

“No Kings” demonstration, Ocean Beach, San Francisco

MSNBC is reporting 200,000 people on the streets in NYC for #NoKings, in the rain. Incredible.

Tens of thousands of people march through the Loop Saturday as part of the nationwide No Kings protest. Half a dozen other marches are taking place in Chicago suburbs.

UPDATE: Officials reported that House Speaker-Emerita Hortman and her husband, Mark, were killed. Senator Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were critically wounded. Our hearts are with all those impacted by yet another horrific act of mass gun violence in America.

Los Angeles. Just wow.

Stay classy, San Diego. #NoKings

I love you Seattle. #abolishice #nokings

Chicago represented for “No Kings”. A peaceful and motivating protest. Police were present but not invasive and I only saw a few National Guard at the train station which we told them they are not needed, or wanted here.

Rep Hortman and I were classmates at the Kennedy School and graduated together in 2018. It took me a moment to realize the person who I remember as deeply service driven and incredibly bright was the victim of last night’s heinous act. She was a bright light and made us all better.

Deploying the National Guard onto the streets of LA for law enforcement purposes is illegal. — @congressmin.bsky.social

Dubbed “No Kings Day,” the over 2,000 planned demonstrations are set to kick off Saturday morning, June 14. The protests have been organized by hundreds of organizations and grass-roots groups, including the ACLU, Public Citizen, Indivisible and 50501. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

The image of a sitting U.S. Senator being violently thrown to the ground and handcuffed—for simply demanding answers from DHS Secretary Noem at a public press conference—is nothing short of chilling. This is not how a democracy operates.

House Dems are demanding that Noem testify before Congress after Sen. Padilla was detained by federal agents at her DHS press conference in LA.

Padilla: If this is how DHS responds to a senator with a question you can only imagine what they're doing to farm workers, to cooks, to day laborers out in the Los Angeles community and throughout California.

Afterwards, Sen. Padilla framed what happened in exactly the right way: "If this is how the Department of Homeland Security responds to a senator with a question...I can only imagine what they're doing to farmworkers, to cooks, to day laborers, in Los Angeles & throughout California & the country."

What we just witnessed is outrageous & should never happen in a democracy: a sitting U.S. Senator was violently thrown to the ground and handcuffed. He was removed from a press conference for challenging the administration’s false & dangerous claims about what is happening in LA. See my statement:

Padilla: “We will hold this administration accountable”

Sen. Alex Padilla was forcibly removed in handcuffs from a press conference in Los Angeles Thursday after attempting to ask Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem questions. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

This is extremely disturbing. @padilla.senate.gov was violently removed from a public briefing for asking questions on behalf of the people he represents. Every day that goes by, Donald Trump is making our nation look more and more like a fascist state.

Kristi Noem: "We are not going away. We are staying here to liberate the city from the socialists and the burdensome leadership that this governor and that this mayor have placed on this country and what they have tried to insert into the city." Sen. Alex Padilla is then forcibly removed!

Senator Padilla was violently assaulted for doing his job. If this is how federal agents treat a sitting U.S. Senator peacefully asking questions, how far will they go?

THANK YOU Jersey City and Hoboken. This is what democracy looks like! This is our win, for and by the people. We did it. We really did it. I am so proud to be your democratic nominee for Assembly along with @ravibhalla.bsky.social More to come! 📷 credit @jerseycitytimes.bsky.social

That's why he lost in a landslide 🙄🙄🙄
