Absolutely on point for Australia's Labor government: they perceive any environmental issue as solved if they successfully sell it to the people as solved. There is no physicality or reality to any of these problems: just polls and perception and focus groups. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Australian fossil fuel giant Santos’ pursuit of the Environmental Defenders Office could lead to its closure. This is what SLAPP actions look like, and designed to silence an organisation that held fossil fuel companies to account. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-01...

Help us reach 200 participants in our study that tries to uncover how housing, gardening and health link together in NSW and Victoria 👩‍🌾👨‍🌾🌱 If you are over age of 50 years, we want to hear from you and your network by completing this 15-minute survey here: swinuw.au1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_...

This is truly shameful. Years of work wasted and the Australian public interest sacrificed to MAGA billionaires and fossil fuels. The sixth mass extinction is underway and we’re passing 1.5C of climate catastrophe.

A "well-organised campaign" with "links to a climate change lobby." The "puppet" narrative began taking shape on Day 1 of @elliesmith4dickson.bsky.social's campaign. Well done, @couriermail.bsky.social hack Brendan O'Malley. That's the way to get ahead ... #NewsCorpse

Two special moments from the Little Desert Nature Lodge last year, before yesterday's devastating fire destroyed this cherished place. Unless we act on climate change such tragedies will become more common. L - Western pygmy possum R - Wilkerr (dingo) pups #WildOz 📷: Sam O'Reilly Ascent Media

This week at Mt Gibson, we're conducting a trapping survey to check in one the reintroduced Red-tailed Phascogale population. Here's on stopping to take in its surroundings after being released back into the wild. #WildOz

Lol. Dutton making the inevitable pivot from Greenie bashing to commie scaremongering.

The Queensland government pretends this is about evidence-based health. But for the Christofascists in charge, this is pushing the Deep North version of MAGA. #TransRightsAreHumanRights.

Garden essentials; flowers for pollinators, water bowls for heatwaves, hamster wheel for fun

30,000 fish have washed up dead on WA’s Pilbara coast. Authorities have linked the deaths to a climate-change-driven marine heatwave that is expected to continue over the next few weeks. This should be a wakeup call. Urgent #ClimateAction is needed to protect marine life, biodiversity & communities.

Here's four quick actions you can do from anywhere. knittingnannas.org/2025/01/27/a...

Traditional Western allies of the US should be working fast to put together their own alliance in the face of a more aggressive, transactional, and frankly imperialist US administration. The longer they wait, the worse things will get.

The weather bureau is predicting a reprieve from heatwave conditions in parts of Queensland, but temperatures will still be brutal in some areas.

Last week about 2,000 litres of contaminated fracking waste water was pumped onto vegetation in the Beetaloo Basin. Tanya Plibersek must use the water trigger to protect the health of First Nations communities and our environment. Take action by emailing your MP here: www.lockthegate.org.au/beetaloo

Disrupt Burrup Hub said WA authorities have relentlessly pursued its activists for standing up to Woodside — “even campaigners who weren’t even present at the actions they were charged in relation to”. www.greenleft.org.au/content/disr...

Pressure works. Labor says it will increase the fed share of public school funding to 25% and eliminate the 4% deduction loophole, which teacher unions and the Greens have been pushing for. But it looks like 100% funding is STILL a decade away. We look forward to more details in the coming days.

Tech is in league with both authoritarianism and the fossil fuel industry www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/busines...

Hello #FernFriday

Wild to me that people, even progressives, continue to cast environmental protestors as elites when this is the reality.

I still hear a lot of arguments on the left that we can persuade or recruit M*GA but I think it's naive, and privileged, to downplay them choosing violence, and there are a lot of other, more viable people to engage in progressive politics.

This is shocking stuff. Good for Senator Thorpe and her Senate enquiry.

Youth foundation proposes a Duty of care and intergenerational fairness law, policies, independent body

Maybe unpopular opinion, but I think we should stop calling it Mediscare, which implies scaremongering, and instead emphasize how in crisis much public healthcare is, and the high likelihood Liberals would cut funding even more if elected.

Re-upping this because the deadline for submissions to prevent Woodside dumping on wonderful Scott Reef has been extended to 31 Jan. Easy to make a submission (especially on a computer rather than a mobile device). Please pass on, thanks!

The fastest potato you'll ever see! Whilst #wombats might look cuddly and slow, when needed they can hit speeds of 40km/h. While they can’t sustain it for long, these bursts of speed are truly impressive for such stocky little legends. Happy #WombatWednesday! 📷: Bowles Wildlife Photography

I didn't know this; if the footpath is to hot for your feet, it's likely to hot for your dogs feets but walk them at cooler times of day rather than give them boots and still make them walk in high heat.

A lot to think about in this article, which we may as well consider in australia too, given the authoritarian elements in our social media and governments to

There's no way to fully measure how often a neighbor or stranger helps someone escape danger during a disaster like the wildfires in California. Research shows that, in critical moments, it's often family, friends, and neighbors who are most likely to save lives.

Ausgrid switches on its sixth community battery to be awarded federal funding under the Community Batteries for Household Solar program

To the crowds cheering Trump's withdrawal from the Paris Agreement: Do you think you live on a different planet, which climate breakdown does not affect? Do you imagine only greens and progressives will be harmed by Earth systems collapse? Do you believe you can win an argument with physics?

For once I'm relieved my father has dementia, and can't follow the news. It's bad enough we have to explain climate change, and inaction, to children. Elders who lost people from WW2 shouldn't have to learn, in their later years fragility, that these nazi scum are coming back.

Knowing the homeless crisis has an even higher death toll than massive fires, I finder it increasingly hard to hear people feign concern for the housing crisis, if I know they back the majors Where ALP drew a hard line against doing more, and Liberals actually criminalise the homeless #auspol

Advances in #climate attribution science are helping to make the case that individual fossil fuel companies should be made to pay compensation for climate change linked disasters
