I’d appreciate your prayers as I’m away for the weekend working on a kids version of the counter-catechism project Thomas West and I have coming out this summer. We pray this will be a great tool for discipleship for churches and families.

“When I consider why uneasiness, concerns, and quarrels have been on the rise in multiple denominations and traditions…I can’t help but wonder if, in many cases, the issue isn’t a lack of visibility into church life but rather overexposure.” @trevinwax.bsky.social mereorthodoxy.com/denomination...

Looking forward to preaching at this event at Beeson, as well as interacting with several lectures from Alister McGrath. Brave the heat of Birmingham this July and join us!

The most joyous part of any book project is writing the acknowledgments. Make it a habit to read the acknowledgments in books - you will find that behind each work is a village of people’s support, insight, and help.

I'm over at @mereorthodoxy.bsky.social today revisiting the variety of course-types I experienced in seminary, and offering a proposal for what theological education could look like in a world with fewer residential students. mereorthodoxy.com/reimagining-...

Season 3 has launched! First two episodes released today: 1. What If We Can't Rebuild (feat. Mark Sayers) 2. Three Waves That Have Shaped Your Church Listen wherever you get your podcasts.

Over the holidays, I watched the new film Conclave, a look at the secretive world of Vatican traditions and the political maneuvering of cardinals as they gather to elect a pope. I didn't appreciate the film's take on faith, doubt, and certainty. www.thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/trevin...

The cover story for @theatlantic.bsky.social this month is a somber look at the increasingly isolating tendencies of Americans today. But Derek Thompson is admirable in that he doesn't interpret the trends in a pessimistic fatalist fashion. www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc...

In pondering the many lessons from Theo of Golden, I’ve been thinking about how compelling holiness can be in a world that has forgotten the sacred dignity of humanity and the high calling God has for us. Here's a puzzle I’ve wrestled with for some time. www.thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/trevin...

My kind of diet.

Typing up my old prayer journals and today I came across this note from 25 years ago this month. The first time I read Confessions. Tonight I finished my 2025 read-through. This year, from Anthony Esolen, whose translation is remarkable.

We in the contemporary Western world are citizens of malaise. We are more likely than any generation prior to throw off religious or moral restraints, yet we are less likely than any generation prior to actually enjoy the fruit of that freedom. www.digitalliturgies.net/p/the-worst-...

Paul Kingsnorth's lecture "Against Christian Civilization" is the best kind of audacious. But his sweeping arguments are hindered by significant gaps. I offer some pushback here. www.thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/trevin...

When we long for God to be the GPS of our soul, what we are really longing for is to avoid the messy dynamics of maturation. We don’t want to struggle through the reality of transformation, so we seek paths where we won’t have to transform. kylestrobel.substack.com/p/god-as-gps...

It is vain to learn to enjoy sport, or to enjoy art, or to enjoy festivity, if we have not learned the fundamental function—how to enjoy enjoyment.

I’ve enjoyed a couple conversations already with Brazilian believers digging into The Thrill of Orthodoxy, now in Portuguese. Will you pray with me for this book to assist in the good work of faithful churches in countries where Portuguese is spoken?

"This theological history takes the yoke of the human condition off the shoulders of parents. It gives us the philosophical anchor, the confidence, not to shy away from the full reality of human nature as we find it in ourselves and our children." thedispatch.com/newsletter/d...

If pride (making much of self) is the root of all sin, then worship (making much of God) is the root of all holiness.

Kudos to Chad Spellman @cedarville.bsky.social and Fontes Press for providing a terrific introduction to one of the most important church fathers. A perfect blend of excerpts with just the right amount of commentary — all in understandable English.

New Year’s morning. Every new year begins with this classic. Looking forward to Anthony Esolen’s translation this year.

Merry Christmas!

Being a fellow for the Keller Center for Cultural Apologetics has been intellectually stimulating and spiritually refreshing for me personally. Honored to join these fellow fellows for a conversation about apologetics, evangelism, and the future of the church. Join us! #tgc25

In the studio today recording narration for season 3 of Reconstructing Faith. Coming in January!

The writer in me is always annoyed when I see emails or advertisements that say "free gift." Isn't that redundant?

A terrific overview of Byung-Chul Han, one of today's most perceptive philosophers -- with strong contemporary relevance www.thegospelcoalition.org/article/mode...

I am fine with dramatization of Bible stories in film... however... The virgin Mary throwing Baby Jesus (in a basket) to Joseph from a thatched roof that's on fire, as Herod's soldiers massacre the people inside... Well, that's a little much, Netflix.
