“We are witnessing a very sad moment in American history. The President of the United States is aligning himself with the dictator of Russia, Vladimir Putin, to undermine the independence of Ukraine and its democracy”

I've seen it suggested that it's 5.5 million voters who will not get a vote.... that's almost the size of popn in Finland 🇫🇮 And who's to say we trust those currently in power with managing the transfer of power? I would have preferred to vote in an Administration specifically to manage change

In Finland 🇫🇮 with friends where Local Government is very different. Their Commune (popn 1800) are responsible for the roads, school, health centre, and water but curiously not waste (which is done by a private company). This is REAL devolution... where your Parish Council makes all the decisions!

Power. Prevention. Place. These are the pillars of an emerging 'new local', writes Jessica Studdert in a new think piece. www.newlocal.org.uk/articles/wha... Because the system isn't unfixable - it's being mended from the ground up, alongside communities - & it's time national players took note.

The Labour Government want 👉 More economic growth 👉 More house building 👉 Local Gov reorganisation I don't see how this works? There will be a mass exodus of Planners to the private sector ....where pay is better as local gov no longer represents a stable job

Hard to overstate how catastrophic this is for global public health. The WHO has helped saved literally millions of lives, particularly those of children, from malnutrition, malaria, TB, HIV etc. Pure callous disregard for vulnerable humanity from Trump - as expected.

BBC News - District council HQ upgrade uncertain in light of devolution - BBC News www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... I suspect this will be the first of many decisions reversed across the country as a result of devo discussions #localgov

So where are the LGR discussions most productive and co-operative .....or the opposite? I heard today that Kent and Hampshire conversations were positive and mature... but some other county areas across the south were "struggling" to have a decent debate. Is this common elsewhere?

Unless anyone has evidence to the contrary (and please, let me know because the truth DOES matter) - then this does seem to summarise the position well.

Really shocked....so young! So talented! BBC News - RuPaul's Drag Race UK star The Vivienne dies aged 32 www.bbc.com/news/article...

So....it might sound sacrilege....but when does the Traitors get interesting 🤔

Happy New Year, you lovely people 😍 here's to a fabulous 2025🎉

Sunshine in the Cotswolds

A quick peruse of the hellscape formally known as Twitter tells me that in the UK the two right wing political parties are attacking each other and in the US different factions of Trump acolytes are attacking each other. Personally, I'm attacking a cheeseboard. Merry Christmas!

Meet Kaaski...AKA Putin, so called because he invades other people's territories, kills things and is a bastard (to me...he ❤️ my husband)

@theifs.bsky.social stating its not the Civil Servants and Planners stopping development....its the politicians, of every colour who make the decisions and the decision not to repeal the 1947 Plannkng Act!

There are lots of reasons why getting Planning Permission takea so long and I know there's some inefficiency in the system but private developers make millions £ - they can afford to pay more How will Local Government build @labours new homes with no Planners? www.localgov.co.uk/Planning-dep...

Local authorities were told to use up their reserves by the last Government and this one, has raised the spectre of reorganisation. Not surprised they're 'on the brink' www.localgov.co.uk/South-East-c...
