Delighted to be giving the Gender & History lecture at Uni of Bristol on 15th May (and on Zoom). Join us for a discussion of trans history, colonial history, & non-human animal history. There will, of course, be merfolk. Link here: ticketpass.org/event/ELMPHJ...

University lecturers: please students don't just use AI and actually challenge yourself to read and write and understand things. Every piece of software used in the learning process: here is an AI assistant so you don't need to read or write things yourself. (This one is from ProQuest Ebook reader)

70% of wheelchair users said pavement parking was a regular problem, forcing them into the road. London can ban pavement parking; why can't the rest of the country? There seems to be widespread support for it; for example, 78% of Daily Express readers back a ban. Let's do it.

i just googled "even ironic use of generative ai harms the planet meaning" and you would NOT believe what it came up with!!

WHAT A GOOD IDEA I WONDER WHY NO-ONE ON CHARGE OF A HOUSING CRISIS EVER THOUGHT OF THAT

And after conquering racism it’ll be just straight up eugenics for TERFs.

I don’t particularly want to pick on this person so have cropped it, but with the “free” provision of 30 hours a week, for one child, for four days a week of care, we pay more than £1000 a month for nursery. Nobody who is not currently paying for childcare understands how much it costs. By design.

If your cause leads to a rise in young people's suicides, self harm & utter terror; if your words/actions are pushing others to kill someone else's child then pausing & stopping that anti trans campaign may be the bravest thing you'd have ever done. You don't need to like s.o to do right by them.

We stand in solidarity with trans women and the trans community and we will always be a space that recognises the importance of trans history. Read on for a selection from our archive 🧵 1/8

Doomscroll break with an absolute unit

Israel killed 15 unarmed emergency workers, buried them with their crushed-up vehicles in a mass grave, then lied repeatedly about the circumstances. After this was exposed, it has now dismissed 1 (one) deputy commander. www.ft.com/content/3e4f...

Boycott the US. If you're a tourist, please, you can find other places to go. Unless its absolutely necessary to travel (work, family, emergency, medical), the world should boycott and shun the US.

Saying trans women have an advantage at parkrun is like saying trans kids have an advantage at soft play. Like who are you competing against and what do you think you are going to win

This is ‘pretend family relationships’ Section 28 level mindfuckery.

They're going after Parkrun again, you know, that event where lots of people of all ages, abilities and genders run around a local park and it not, in any form, a race?

Shut down the youth clubs. Sell off the playing fields. Put up "no ball games" signs. Make public places hostile to teenagers. Then: "Young people, eh? Always indoors looking at their phones."

Adil Ray on whats happening in Gaza: "where is the line for the UK govt?" Decapitating babies. Murdering journalists & medics. Raping people to death. Bombing hospitals. Starving 2m people. Blowing up universities. Burning people alive. Its been clear throughout that the UK govt has no line.

This reminds me of being HOD…

The Trump incompetence defense reminds me of this essential Lili Loofbourow essay on “the male bumbler.” Abuser and harassment patterns lie at the heart of American conservative practices. theweek.com/articles/737...

You get a lot of centrist YIMBY types going on about planning and "get government red tape out the way and just build build build!" but impossible to look at this graph and draw any conclusion other than "oh, shit, the shortfall is just state housing"

Why does it always have to be personal? Why can’t it be on principle? Equal rights, freedoms, and dignity for all, especially the most oppressed and minoritised.

Why are children not playing in the street? An FT piece analysing the - very concerning - decline in outdoor play manages to look at every possible cause: screens, spaces, school timetable changes. Apart from one. Cars. It is simply not safe for kids to play outside on streets.

Put aside the lies and the open defiance of the Supreme Court, as well as the cruelty, and ask yourself: who talks like this? This is the *official* account of the *White House* - is it being run by a six year old?

It's a sign of the times that callousness is now dressed up as intellectualism. That empathy is framed as being as morally problematic as prejudice. That bigotry and hatred is just honesty. That solidarity is treason.
