NEW: AWS Lambda will now begin billing for the INIT phase for all runtimes (not just custom/container runtimes). Your cold starts cost money now! My hottest take is that AWS should have done this years ago.

Thu 20th 📅 March Talks! (Two) with Rust Edinburgh, Edinburgh

Almost a year ago I left AWS to bootstrap my open source project. I get asked why create an open source project? Why not close source and get folks to pay.... I want to share my journey with others, so here is my first post. boyney123.substack.com/p/why-is-you...

Delightful little Lothian bus tickets found tucked inside some secondhand books.

My LinkedIn 2024 rewind: co-hosting a successful event-driven meetup in Edinburgh with @pauleakd.bsky.social, publishing blog posts on event-driven systems and observability, as well as renewing an AWS Professional certification. Looking forward to 2025!

Next year on June 16th & 17th I’ll attend LDX3 by @leaddev.com in London. Limited availability remains for early bird tickets. If you’re also attending it would be great to connect!

@mrjamesob.bsky.social Edinburgers is a thing! Not as popular as Londoners, but I’ve lived in Edinburgh for a decade and hear Edinburgers often.

Ticket booked for @thenewsagents.com live from Usher Hall, Edinburgh in March! A lot can happen in Scottish and UK politics between now and then. 👀

Great few days in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Had fun speaking at EDA meetup here, thanks @trrhodes.bsky.social for the invite 🙏. Few hours working with Postcode Lottery helping them understand the importance of governance with EDA. And shoutout to @leggetter.co.uk and @hookdeck.com sponsoring it all 🤘🙏

This is clever. Great work @theo.io 👏 bsky-follow-finder.theo.io

I make visuals to help folks learn. Governance with event-driven architecture is currently a passion of mine. Here is a visual to help you understand why, and resources to help you get started. eda-visuals.boyney.io/visuals/impo...

For folk in Edinburgh - This morning news letter is the best way to consume local news, bar none. Michael MacLeod has done a world of good work making daily local news something accessible and useful again.

34 years ago today, a couple of British 🇬🇧 and Belgium 🇧🇪 scientists described what would eventually become the World Wide Web #cern #www #http https://www.w3.org/Proposal.html

10 years of Amazon ECS. It kicked off a lot of innovation in container management. One of the highlights was the introduction of Fargate, so there was no need any more for managing the underlying infrastructure. aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/ce...

Hello folks, My name is Dave Boyne, I'm on a mission to help bring discoverability to event-driven architectures through open source. If you love event-driven, distributed, serverless, then let's connect ❤️

I started an AWS Developer Experience (DevRel folks) starter pack! Let me know if you should be on it and I missed you. go.bsky.app/7BzaRNT

Spent a couple weeks in Canada, time split between Toronto and Vancouver. Weather was on my side for the most part. ☀️

My latest read, “One Crew: the RNLI’s Official 200-Year History”. Four chapters in and learning a lot from the RNLI’s (then RNIPLS) journey through the 19th century. #rnli #helendoe #rnipls #book #uk

From start to finish, I read Val McDermid’s take on Macbeth whilst commuting from Edinburgh to Aberdeen. This is a great read for anyone wanting a more accurate tale of Macbeth’s story. #macbeth #shakespeare #valmcdermid #scotland #book

Yesterday marked my 30th birthday. What better way to spend the day other than seeing “Willy’s Candy Spectacular” at the Fringe? They were fantastic. #edinburghfringefestival #edinburgh #edinburghfringe #scotland #willyscandyspectacular
