Eating dried oats, the thought “ lovely horse” flashed through my mind. I remembered being at a farm on a warm summer evening. I had prepared a mash of oats and molasses in a leather bucket which I proffered to a lovely grey shire that had earlier worked with ploughing a field. Gently old thing.
