🎶 James Vincent McMorrow, "Post Tropical" (2013) One of those songs that the first three quarters are...fine, and the last quarter is absolutely transcendent.

🎶 Pit Pony, "Vacancy" (2025) There's a hook here. A big one. See if you can find it! It's not hard!

R.I.P. David Johansen, the last surviving original member of the New York Dolls. After fronting the iconic glam punk band in the early ‘70s, the NYC musician found mainstream success in the late ‘80s, scoring the hit “Hot Hot Hot” as Buster Poindexter and acting in the movie ‘Scrooged.’ He was 75.

🎶 Bonnie 'Prince' Billy & Tim O'Brien, "Our Home" (2025) Well this is just some goddamn comfort-food-as-a-song right here.

🎶 The Who, "Blue Red and Gray" (1975) It never ceases to amaze me that such a impossibly lovely song came from The Who. It's on the same album as "Squeeze Box", ffs!

🎶 Mei Semones, "Dumb Feeling" (2025) Two songs into her upcoming album and it's the frontrunner for album of the year.

🎶 Horsegirl, "I Can't Stand To See You" (2025) Oh, hell yeah. I wasn't sure what to expect from this second album from Horsegirl, but this perfectly hits an indie rock sweet spot.

Repost with the first album you bought with your own money.

If you didn't know already, heads up that deck.blue exists. It's just as good as Tweetdeck ever was.

My personal favorite of all the comps. You?

🎶 Les McCann, "Burnin' Coal" (1969) I couldn't totally decide if this worked or not in the scene in Severance, but it turned me on to the song, so I can't fault it either way.

🎶 Field Music, "In Context" (2007) Oh, nothing. Just reminded that this is a perfect song. That's all.

🎶 The Apples In Stereo, "Sunndal Song" (2007) Do The Kids know The Apples In Stereo? They certainly write songs like they do.

🎶 Mei Semones, "Dangomushi" (2024) If you're still not into Mei Semones yet, I don't know what to say. That's on you.

🎶 Pete Wylie & the Mighty WAH!, "Come Back" (1984) I'm not sure what's going on with that full song title, but I can forgive it for a track this good.

🎶 Lamb, "Cotton Wool" (1996) The vocals are meh, but those beats will drill a hole into your brain in the best possible way . Check out that insane beat around 1:45.

🎶 Thowing Muses, "Shimmer" (1995) Throwing Muses was one of those "like them but don't love them" bands, but this song? This one always blew me away.

🎶 Ducks Ltd., "Grim Symmetry" (2024) I feel like I didn't give this enough love when it was new to me. Need to fix that.

🎶 Mull Historical Society, "The Supermarket Strikes Back" (2003) I can usually explain why I love a song, because I'm a nerd like that. This one, though? It's catchy, emotional, but...I still can't pinpoint exactly why I love it so much. And I love it so much.

🎶 Elvis Costello & The Attractions, "The Greatest Thing" (1983) Among my friends, Elvis Costello is a given, and it's always a little sad that more people don't know more of his music.

🎶 Mojave 3, "Where Is The Love" (1996) I love being reminded how lovely this is.

🎶 Saint Etienne, "Preflyte" (2024) I'm both admiring and distanced by Saint Etienne's easing into ambient pop, but every now and then, their pure pop instincts show up again.

🎶 Santigold, "Can't Get Enough Of Myself" (2016) How was this not a world-beating, ubiquitous hit? How is it not even in her top 10 most streamed songs?!!

🎶 Stevie Wonder, "I Was Made To Love Her" (1967) Every single listen to this amazes me. The band is great and soulful, and yet Stevie is almost busting out of his skin with feeling. It's almost impossible.

🎶 Jungle Brothers, "Straight Out The Jungle" (1988) A fascinating book could be written about the incredible leaps forward hip-hop took in 1988.

🎶 Marnie Stern, "Transformer" (2008) I hadn't listened to this in ages, and I'm still not crazy about her voice, but the music is just bonker insane fantastic. Still sounds unlike just about anything else.

🎶 Waxahatchee, "3 Sisters" (2024) The Waxahatchee songs will be shared until morale improves.

FACT CHECK: all of Waxahatchee's songs are great.

🎶 Girl and Girl, "Mother" (2024) Primary point: the '20's have been great for high-energy, well-crafted rock. Secondary point: speaking from experience, do NOT Google "Girl and Girl" without added "band".

I dare you to put this playlist of every Grammy Song of the Year winner on random as a sex playlist open.spotify.com/playlist/65i...

🎶 Jungle, "Let's Go Back" (2024) Sweet merciful Christ, yes PLEASE.

Grammy voters vote like the American public do: ignorantly and for the name that's most familiar to them.

🎶 The Units, "High Pressure Days" (1979) I've said it before and I'll say it again: the new wave era is a bottomless well of great songs.

🎶 Waxahatchee, "St. Cloud" (2020) sigh

🎶 Darren Hanlon, "Good Vibration" (2024) The day I stop loving Darren Hanlon is the day I die.

🎶 The Verlaines, "Lying In State" (1985) One of those tracks that just absolutely makes me jump out of my skin.

🎶 Stornaway, "Zorbing" (2010) This is exactly the kind of uncool, melodic shit I'm into.

🎶 The Go-Betweens, "I'm All Right" (1988) You, repeatedly for the last 35+ years: "I think you'd love the Go-Betweens."Me, 2025: "Have you guys listened to the Go-Betweens?! They're so good! Check them out!"

🎶 Perfume Genius, "It's A Mirror" (2025) Mike Hadreas just never misses. It's almost annoying.

🎶 Ted Leo & the Pharmacists, "C.I.A." (2007) How does Ted Leo kick so much ass? Let me count the ways.

🎶 The Bats, "The Law of Things" (1987) There's a definite intimidation factor in diving into the niche of New Zealand 80's indie, but dipping my toes in every now and then feels great.

🎶 Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, "London May" (2025) My favorite BPB album is Lie Down In The Light, which got tagged as his "most accessible" album. So if this song is any indication, we're in for another great one.

🎶 The Sundays, "Here's Where The Story Ends" (1990) It somehow sounds even better now than it did then; still at least just as jaw-dropping.

🎶 The Go-Betweens, "You Can't Say No Forever" (1988) I really don't need yet another addition to my list of "bands I should have loved at the time." WHY DIDN'T I LOVE ALL GREAT MUSIC AT THE MOMENT IT WAS RELEASED. https://www.tunemine.com/post/773379987328974848/the-go-betweens-you-cant-say-no-fo…

🎶 Perfume Genius, "On The Floor" (2020) He's never set a foot wrong, but this track is so spectacular; a pop hit that should've been.

🎶 FKA twigs, "Eusexa" (2025) If you had played this for me 30 years ago and said "this is what pop music will sound like in 2025", that would have been perfectly believable.

🎶 The Essex Green, "Rue de Lis" (2006) Thank you to Shuffle for reminding me of this lovely song.

🎶 The Innocence Mission, “Your Saturday Picture” (2024) The Innocence Mission, “Your Saturday Picture” As it has been for 30 years, there is no reason at all not to get every new Innocence Mission album.

🎶 Labi Siffre, "It Must Be Love" (1971) I always thought that the Madness song sounded different than their other stuff, but it never occurred to me that it might fall into that dumb category of "Songs I Didn't Know Were Covers". https://www.tunemine.com/post/772927015816953856/labi-siffre-it-mus…
