I can't reiterate this enough: the two AIs talking to each other were DESIGNED to do so. It was a tech demo of what was possible, but not two unrelated systems figuring out how to chat in secret. They designed them to recognize each other and switch to a more efficient method. That's all.

Having served as a Moscow correspondent in the early days of Putin's reign, this reminds me of how the Kremlin took over its own press pool and made sure that only compliant journalists were given access.

The people who think DEI and merit are incompatible don't understand ANY of the process. These are not mutually-exclusive priorities. Worse yet though is the active belief that anyone who COULD meet a DEI requirement CAN'T meet a merit requirement. We have words for those kinds of assumptions...

This is how the Terran empire began in fact.

Kamala was right. And it only took him less than 30 days to roll over for Putin.

Portuguese editorial cartoonist Zez Vaz reaches back to Tiananmen Square to call on American defiance.

Is there any way on here to make a feed/list of my own that's private? I can't seem to find the equivalent. I follow a lot of people on here, but I'd really like to make a feed of just people I know personally, for those who've migrated from other more social places.

Seems account cloning is very much a thing here. Somebody copied @nphstuff.bsky.social's account, including reposts, and is messaging people personally.

"That's so easy, I could do it in my sleep." Everything's easy when you're dreaming it. Try doing it awake.

Saw a Cybertruck with a "I bought this before Elon went crazy" bumper sticker today, and nope. That cutoff was before the Cybertruck was available. This just means you were okay with a LOT of bad stuff the everyone else already got out on at the right time. Sticker rejected.

Okay, I watched halftime. I don't follow Kendrick outside of what filters out to everyone, and my auditory processing disorder makes the pace of rap lyrics hard for me. Still thought it was fire, packed with symbolism so thinly veiled it might as well have been a wardrobe malfunction.

Look, I am just a small town scholar of mass murder, so let me ask a simple, naive question: And then what?

I need to be clear: I'm not on Truth, and I have no idea if this is real. But my bigger problem with this is the fact that I live in an age where I can look at a post like this and not immediately know whether or not it's real.

As someone who has reported on AI for 7 years and covered China tech as well, I think the biggest lesson to be drawn from DeepSeek is the huge cracks it illustrates with the current dominant paradigm of AI development. A long thread. 1/

"As of today, it looks as though Donald Trump is in the process of freezing federally-funded cancer research in the United States," says @chrislhayes.bsky.social

It's not subtle. This is a federal judge invoking Nuremberg.

How do I block all fan trailers masquerading as real trailers, leaks, previews, or anything else labeled to appear official? Asking for my friend, the entire Internet.

BREAKING, via The Seattle Times: Trump's executive order to restrict birthright citizenship is blocked for at least the next two weeks by a Reagan appointee in Seattle who eviscerated the Trump lawyers present defending the order. www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...

It's wild watching people who voted for a man because he says what he thinks convinced he doesn't really think what he says.

In his ethics filing, RFK Jr. says he will keep receiving a 10% cut of contingency fees in vaccine litigation against Merck. The deal has made him over $2 million so far. As HHS Secretary, Kennedy will have substantial authority over Merck, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world.

WHEW! I guess only billionaire geniuses are susceptible to doing that extremely specific move by accident.

This Cybertruck did not crash. It made a heartfelt and perhaps ill-advised gesture that, in the moment, might have been misinterpreted as a crash, but we should not rush to judgement.

I'm at a point in my life where filmmaking gets me emotional. Not the content, per se, but the process. This scene hit me hard when I watched it, but this breakdown hit me even harder. #Severance youtu.be/VOeFQ2ghR3U

I had no fewer than three nightmares last night, ranging in a wide variety of forms, that I was late for and missed my annual checkup with my doctor this morning. I naturally then arrived 15 minutes early in reality, like I always do without fail. My brain loves to torture me.

She's braver than essentially the entire Democratic Party and the entire media industry

Look, I know we all want to assume the worst of Elon's gesture on that stage, but is it possible he wasn't actually doing a Nazi salute, but merely heartwarmingly saluting his Nazi sympathizer grandparents?

Another day, another collection of Reddit and Facebook group posts from people asking how to do things that were included in the instructions for the thing they bought. Literacy is so dead.

It crosses my mind that Severance is as close to a live-action version of the world of Portal as we get.

I spent the first few minutes of the Severance premiere completely enveloped in some of the best camera work I've ever seen in film or television.

Reporter: Who gets credit for this? You or Trump? Biden: Is that a joke?

Every question from the senators should have been job specific like this. This demonstrates lack of preparedness. This could have convinced 3 republicans he isn’t the right one for the job

Pete Hegseth getting all these women to sign nondisclosure agreements means he has a lot of embarrassing skeletons in the closet. Don't think Putin doesn't know what they are. #Blackmail

So I know a Threads complaint is the lack of a live view over the preference of an algorithm. Meanwhile I know an advantage here is the opposite. But is there an equivalent of a better mix? I do like to see things that aren't just INSTANTLY NEW at the top. I'd like to see what I missed. Thoughts?

The LA fires are a Library of Alexandria moment for entertainment. We have no idea how many irreplaceable bits of media were lost. Unpublished screenplays and manuscripts and demo tapes and notes and recordings and memorabilia and drafts, to name a few. Loss we'll never comprehend.

Apparently Luigi's potentially facing the death penalty, which I assume means they just sentence him to be insured by UnitedHealthcare.

Looked up handheld sewing machines on Amazon. Found inexpensive ones with HUGE numbers of high-star reviews. Found they had all been combined with cheap items like greeting cards or pens, and all of the reviews were for those. Absolutely evil. And I can't find any way to report these.

I have to be honest: I don't see the issue with the Kia logo. It's fine. It looks cool. Tons of car logos are literally just symbols that aren't readable in any way. I don't understand the problem.
