This is still my favourite story from the past few weeksπŸ₯°. It's not all lost yet. Sometimes beavers come to the rescue! ❀️ 🦫🦫🦫 www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/article/beaver-dam-czech-republic

Just finished this crossword during a(nother) bout of insomnia. What a pleasure to work through a puzzle perfectly tailored to my expertise, and a fun way to test my bookworm credentials πŸ˜ŠπŸ“šπŸ“šπŸ“š

I've updated my Starter Pack of #KidLit and #YAlit agents who work with trade publishers: go.bsky.app/U2tLvGj If I'm missing anyone, please let me know!

One of the saddest truths I have come to know is that the most talented, caring and beautiful souls I know are filled with constant, mind-churning self-doubt, self-loathing, and Imposter Syndrome… while the heinous bullies sleep like babies, wake up refreshed, look in the mirror, and see perfection.

I survived 2024 with my sanity, not quite intact but hanging in there πŸ˜…. At least now I know there isn't much 2025 can throw at me that I can't take. I only wish I could go into the new year with my Loki beside me. Will miss him always πŸ’”. Happy New Year to everyone! Let's hope it is a kind one!

Autumn greets winter. πŸ‚β„οΈ

Spark by @sarahbethdurst.bsky.social is a great middle grade read for shy and quiet kids. It's about finding the courage to speak up about what is right. And there is a great relationship between a girl and her dragon! ❀️ Highly recommended! πŸ“šπŸ‘ #MGlit

Only managed to read one of these. But the one I read, The Curse of Eelgrass Bog by @maryaverling.bsky.social, was brilliant! Hurrah for great middle grade books! πŸŽ‰

Had a lovely time at the SCBWI Benelux retreat this weekend. It was inspiring to listen to writers talk about their ideas and seeing illustrators create amazing art. Going on retreats might be my favourite part of being a writer. Can I become a professional retreater? πŸ˜… #writer #kidlit

It's been a hectic couple of weeks. So I'm happy I've escaped it all for the SCBWI Benelux retreat in Spa (yes, it's where spas originated, in case you were wondering). Writing, wellness and walks in the woods. And of course best of all, exchanging with other children's writers 😊 β„οΈπŸ“ #SCBWI #KidLit

Here I am innocently re-reading Aru Shah and the End of Time by Roshani Chokshi, thinking that a funny, whimsical middle-grade fantasy is just what I need to escape this dystopian reality, when I'm rudely reminded of our current predicament... A demon though? That would explain things πŸ€”

It was boiling in Belgium last night, and I found myself wishing that I was waking up on a weekend morning in early January, pulling my duvet tight against the chill. Had to stop myself there. I have been grumbling about the cold weather for months, I'm not allowed to dream of winter. But still...❄️

Loved Kiki Kallira Conquers a Curse by Sangu Mandanna, the 2nd book about Kiki, who suffers from anxiety and is the hero of a fantasy story. I wish I could have read these as a kid when I used fantasy books as an escape. I might have realised I suffered from anxiety 20 years earlier... #kidlit πŸ“šπŸ‘

Registrations are open for the SCBWI Europolitan conference in Cologne! πŸ˜ƒ Great opportunity for European children's writers to connect and learn. #Kidlit #ya

Hello #BookSky! My name is Ian and I was a teacher for thirteen years! I now write LGBTQ+ inclusive kids’ books like this!

While waiting for feedback from a beta reader for my middle grade WIP, I'm jotting down ideas about the protagonist for another MG fantasy, this one inspired by Finnish mythology. And thought I'd show off my summery Moomin notebook 😊. #Writing #Moomin

I run the Bookzilla bookfinder app for Scottish Book Trust. Available free in the UK, it lets kids (and adults) browse for the latest MG and teenage releases by genre. Please take a look and share with anyone who might find it useful. www.scottishbooktrust.com/reading-and-... #UKKidLit

Hey, so turns out getting x-rays on your pet rat and treating their pneumonia is really expensive. So if you were considering hiring me for sensitivity reading, now's a great time to do it. bookjockeyalex.com/sensitivity-...

Slightly surprising quote for a sugar packet. Would have expected something sweet or cheerful. This means something like "Anyone is powerful enough to do evil" according to G translate. Wasn't expecting evil to feature with my afternoon tea. #quote #spain #holiday

What is everyone's favourite beach read genre? Mine is crime fiction. Just finished The Crossing Places by Elly Griffiths, the first Dr Ruth Calloway mystery. Good mystery with great characters, set in a haunting landscape. Will continue with this series! πŸ’™πŸ“š #booksky #summerreading #crimefiction

Finally read the Wayfarer series by Becky Chambers. Great character driven sci-fi . And I can see why they call it hopepunk. I wish one day humans would learn to communicate with and accept other cultures as well as these aliens do. #booksky #scifi #hopepunk

Is anyone in the #KidLit community out there actively maintaining a comprehensive List of: Picture Book Authors KidLit Illustrators (I just do PAL illus) MG (Middle Grade) Authors KidLit Graphic Novel Authors or other Kidlit-related LISTS (not feeds)? If so, pls reply w/your List info below? Thx!

Loki might be 11 and a half but he still loves playing with a stick. This is his "throw the stick already!" face. Hypnotising him with a stick is also a good way to get him to look in the direction of the camera πŸ˜…πŸ• #dog.

Here some great #middlegrade fantasy books featuring non-human sidekicks🐈. The Girl Who Could not Dream by @sarahbethdurst.bsky.social, Spell Sweeper by @leefodi.bsky.social, Serwa Boateng's Guide to Vampire Hunting by @rosiesrambles.bsky.social and Pahua and the Soul Stealer @lorimlee.bsky.social.

When I was writing I looked forward to editing, because at least there would be no empty page. Now that I'm editing I long for an empty page instead of whatever awful mess this is 😭. #writing #editing #writerslife

Spell Sweeper by @leefodi.bsky.social is my favourite book so far this year, and I've read some great ones! But none of them could compete with the idea of a spell sweeper, the strong humourous character voice, or the theme. And I could not put it down! Would love another book about Cara! #kidlit πŸ“šπŸ‘

Can't wait for new books in these middlegrade series this year: Nevermoor book 4: Silverborn: the Mystery of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend, Supernatural Investigations book 3: Amari and the Despicable Wonders by BB Alston and Pahua Moua book 2: Pahua and the Dragon's Secret by Lori M. Lee. πŸŽ‰πŸ₯°
