I write Swift and write about Swift, but most people prefer my dogs.

SPQR has long been the standard iPhone app for classical studies students. On March 7th it's getting a huge relaunch: almost 100 classical works in Latin, Greek, and English, plus dictionaries, flashcards, grammar tests, quizzes, and more. Pre-order now: apps.apple.com/us/app/spqr-...

I need to post something that classical studies folks will actually care about, because amazingly enough not everyone uses Swift 🙃 So…

My latest app is now available for pre-order! It's really niche, but has been extremely popular ever since it was first released back in (*checks notes*) 2010. It was written before Swift was even a thing, which meant this new version was a complete rewrite in Swift and SwiftUI.

We'll be recording the next episode of Swift over Coffee soon, and we'd love to hear your answer to our open ballot: how do *you* deal with impostor syndrome? Reply below, and we'll feature as many answers as we can in the show!

Today's Hacking with Swift live stream is at 5pm UK time / 9am PST! We'll be building a macOS app from scratch using SwiftUI, but we'll be doing so using test-driven development – this is a fantastic opportunity to learn how to write great tests!

Applications are now open for this year's Swift Student Challenge! I can't recommend it enough – it's a great way to show off your skills! Build something wonderful with Xcode or Swift Playground, and maybe I'll see you at WWDC? 👀 Find out more here: developer.apple.com/swift-studen...

Boop the snoot for good luck 🍀

Thanks to generous members of the Swift community, I have 4 diversity tickets to give away for Unwrap Live 2025! If you're from an under-represented group in our community and can attend, email [email protected] with a little info about yourself. https://www.hackingwithswift.com/articles/27…

I'm speaking at ARCtic Conference in March, both a talk and a workshop. My talk is about my Ignite static site builder: why I built it, how I built it, how you can use it, and also how you can contribute too. Check out the epic speaker line up (and me!):

So many folks signed up to help write tests for Ignite, the static site generator for Swift developers! There's a huge Zoom 5pm GMT today: I'll show you how to write tests and contribute them to the project. Everyone welcome! Join the #ignite on Slack:

🇨🇳 哈喽,中国朋友们!I'm speaking at Let's Vision 2025 in Shanghai. I have a week or so there, and would love to meet as many community folks as possible – if there are meetups around that time, or if you'd like just like to meet for a chat, let me know!

Landed in Singapore ahead of iOS Conf SG 🇸🇬 I’m doing a workshop tomorrow (jet lag? What jet lag?), then on Friday I’ll be delivering the closing keynote. It’s the most complex talk I’ve ever made, so I’m looking forward to seeing what you all think 🙌

12 hours ago I sent my monthly newsletter. In there I asked if anyone could help write tests for Ignite, my Swift-powered static website generator. Already over 70 people have volunteered to help! I love this community 🙇‍♂️

Unwrap Live is back for 2025, this time focusing on Apple Intelligence! It's a full-day, online-only workshop that will teach app intents, generative AI with image playgrounds and writing tools, and more 🚀 www.hackingwithswift.com/articles/274...

Recommendations wanted: I’d like to run a Swift / macOS website in the cloud, but don’t really expect much server load. Suggestions?

We’re all sitting down to watch the new Wallace and Gromit movie, yes? 🇬🇧🎄

Settling down to watch our favourite Christmas movie with the kids. Happy Christmas, everyone!

I consistently get locked out of my own Netflix account, because apparently I’m not part of my own household. I’ve removed al the devices from the account and changed the password, and it still insists I don’t belong in my own account. It’s infuriatingly stupid.

⏰ This starts in one hour! youtube.com/live/up6LpJO...

This is tomorrow! Come and learn some SwiftUI, ask questions while we build the app, and help raise money for charity! 🙌

My first-ever app, Picabulary, is in the App Store! 😱 6 mo ago, I knew no coding. With #100DaysOfSwiftUI, I built it from 0, it got accepted on the 1st try! 🎉 Picabulary helps learn words: 📓 Add words to vocab 🖼️ Attach images/emojis 🃏 Memorize flashcards 📲 Import/export/manage data #BuildInPublic

Today's Hacking with Swift+ live stream is in 4 hours! We'll be making a complete SwiftUI app from scratch, and the app will be used as part of the all-new Swift Interview Challenges book landing tomorrow 🎉 Come and see how it's built: www.hackingwithswift.com/plus

December 22nd is my birthday, and once again I’ll be live streaming building a SwiftUI app from scratch to raise money for charity! - Watch the stream here: https://buff.ly/4grWMjo - Donate to my nominated charity here: https://www.justgiving.com/page/swiftui-birthd…

"Swift Assist is coming later this year," said Apple in June. It's now December 4th, so that means we're only a few weeks from seeing it in action – Xcode 16.3 beta 1, presumably? That would give them maximum time to firm things up if there's still more polish needed.

I got to see an all-male performance of Pirates of Penzance yesterday, and I already booked to see it again Thursday. Absurdly silly, just as Gilbert & Sullivan would have wanted!

Although the Bluesky app isn’t great, the API is very nice – I love the custom feeds folks are sharing! Only posts, no replies or reposts: bsky.app/profile/did:... Only posts from people you follow who post rarely: bsky.app/profile/did:...
