Up to 60 days in jail and a $500 fine for camping on public land. A new amendment attached to a bill being considered by state lawmakers could lead to people experiencing homelessness getting charged with a Class C misdemeanor. mirrorindy.org/indiana-bill...

If a renter reports health violations, their landlord can escape accountability by simply moving the tenant to another unit or evicting them. That's because the county's Health and Hospital Corporation dismisses cases when a unit becomes vacant. mirrorindy.org/indianapolis...

“I will support it because I love my community.” “It’s who comes in and runs the apartment.” “I think it’s kind of dumb to put apartments right there.” See what neighbors are saying about a proposed development on the east side. by @tyfenwick.bsky.social mirrorindy.org/proposed-ind...

This could be helpful for Section 8 renters. We heard from some renters that they didn't get their utility assistance from IHA for this month. Neither IHA nor the city would answer our questions, but the utility companies gave us some advice to pass along. mirrorindy.org/indianapolis...

A federal lawsuit is threatening a program that helps small businesses compete for contracts with INDOT. Because it's for "disadvantaged" businesses, the program seems to have been swept up by the broader push from Trump and Mike Braun to eliminate DEI. mirrorindy.org/indot-contra...

How many "cautionary tales" do these lawyers need?

A bill that would make it a Class C misdemeanor for homeless people to stay on public land and sidewalks passed out of a House committee this morning. The bill would require a warning, followed by arrest if the person hasn't left after 24 hours.

Residents were asking for IHA’s help because the agency subsidizes their rent. The apartment building also is managed by an IHA employee, according to residents and Indiana’s public employee compensation portal. mirrorindy.org/indianapolis...

Also, some contractors said they’re owed thousands in unpaid invoices.

Residents at a senior apartment complex on Indiana Ave say they don’t feel safe. IHA subsidizes their rent but had few answers for them at a board meeting this week. I went over there and got a short tour from a resident before getting kicked out. mirrorindy.org/indianapolis...

The city tells IBJ that there isn't a decision yet on whether to ask for development proposals for the other half of the Jail I site. The site could also be sold, leased or donated to a private developer. www.ibj.com/articles/cit...

Emerging from a multi-month depressive episode because it's warm and sunny.

The city tells IndyStar it hopes to see the eastern portion of the Jail I site become housing, public space, infrastructure or economic development. That would be right next to the Fever practice facility. www.indystar.com/story/news/r...

Just received a press release announcing the Fever have re-signed Kelsey MItchell. Love to see it!

Statement from a city spokesperson: “We are actively monitoring and awaiting further guidance.”

I've been on the phone with housing and homelessness service providers today talking about the federal funding freeze. They're waiting for answers like everyone else - not only about services but also their jobs. As one person told me, “I can’t really wrap my head around the implications.”

The announcement of a new practice facility for the Indiana Fever drew plenty of praise. But for some, this piece of city-owned land next to the transit center could have been so much more. mirrorindy.org/indiana-feve...

It’s 2025, and newspaper columnists are still announcing when something makes them cry. Knock it off.
