Check out our new paper on what a $230+ billion cut to SNAP could mean in your state.

With #SNAP benefits averaging only $6.20 per person per day, I appreciate Chair Thompson's interest in avoiding benefit cuts. But it's not possible to cut $230B+—which would be a more than 20% cut to SNAP—without cutting benefits, eligibility, or both. www.politico.com/live-updates...

Team, we’re losing the plot. Their plan to cut people’s health care & food assistance is about paying for tax cuts for rich, not deficit reduction:

Chair Arrington’s budget resolution directs the Agriculture Committee to cut at least $230 billion. Translation: House Republicans are seeking deep cuts to #SNAP, the program that helps 42 million low-income people afford groceries, in order to give the wealthy a big tax cut.

Slashing supports for low-income families has harmful ripple effects. Because participating in SNAP or Medicaid streamlines enrollment in WIC, proposals to cut SNAP & Medicaid could also erect unnecessary paperwork barriers & jeopardize access to WIC's vital benefits.

Households who receive #SNAP have very low incomes. More than 80% of SNAP households have gross incomes at or below the poverty line ($25,820 for a family of 3 in 2025). To be clear these are the people being asked to pay their “fair share.”

With some Republicans considering cuts & harmful policy changes to #SNAP this year, let’s take a closer look at SNAP’s links to better health & lower health care costs.

New brief explores a common theme in GOP proposals to slash support for low-income people: shift huge costs to states, forcing them to cut benefits or limit eligibility. Now, Republicans are reportedly considering this as a way to cut SNAP. www.cbpp.org/research/sta...

Hey Y’all! If you were worried about the potential impacts on #SNAP benefits during the funding freeze chaos yesterday, you should check out our latest paper because the threat to cut SNAP is not over. www.cbpp.org/research/foo...

New reports that Republican lawmakers are considering further expanding SNAP’s harsh and ineffective work requirement to apply to parents of children 7 and older. This policy won't support work—but it will hurt kids & make it harder for low-income families to afford groceries.
