DOGE is like if Fyre Festival was a government agency.

Seems pretty dangerous to turn a lot of angry, unemployed, highly-skilled scientists out on the streets. Do you want dino-people? Because THIS is how you get dino-people.

I feel like Alaska shouldn't get to have all the fun, and WA residents could do well to embrace the jewel that is Tahoma.

For folks in WA, this is a great tool for seeing what's going on locally with bird flu. www.arcgis.com/apps/webappv...

One of the things about going to school in the seventies (and eighties, but a lot more caveats for the eighties) was that I got inculcated with a pretty rosy sense of what this country was supposed to be as a multi-racial, multi-ethnic democracy. www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqvL...

I want to put up signs that say "Trump is killing American jobs"

@montbayseaweeds.bsky.social Do you ship for aquarium use?

Thinking a lot about the privileged loser to Nazi pipeline.

“It's fucking racist,” one active-duty Army general told @stevenbeynon.bsky.social on the condition of anonymity to avoid retaliation. “For the Army now, it's 'Blacks need not apply,’ and it breaks my heart."

So much of Trump's agenda would make more sense were his goal to destroy the US as a global superpower.

What are the current recs for good seed sellers for the maritime PNW? Istr that territorial had issues?

Academics, I'm not joking when I say save your work in multiple places outside of your institution's server or Google or MS cloud. A thumb drive. An external drive. Print out the critical documents, e.g., final drafts, approved grants, latest teaching/research statements, teaching assessments, etc.

I'm appalled.

Universities really seem to have the “comply in advance” thing mastered.

I love this picture of Ember, who was on her way downstairs to get treats, but was caught by a sunbeam

Cricket is watching you.

Happy to keep providing much needed timeline cleanses: yesterday I saw a slug that I've been looking for for a year, one of nature's miracles: MacFarland's chromodorid, a vivid purple nudibranch! Absolutely stunning. 😍 Eats sponges. #socal. 📸Olympus TG6. #tidepooling 🦑🦀

I was joking with my C++ students about how they were missing Python, and one of them posted this to the class discord.

This quarter, my intro to programming students are learning C++ ...this mostly seems to have them realizing how much they love python.

What? I kept thinking "DEIA" was a typo or some obscure thing I missed. They're attacking the "A" for "Accessibility" as too woke? And, they want employees to snitch on accessibility efforts? People have to fight this evil stacked upon evil.

So, @dahlialithwick.bsky.social, I just saw Lady Justice featured proudly at my local farm & garden. (We have the best garden shops here...) I've recommended it to so many. A few mentioned they found it a bit frustrating, being about great people fighting rear guard actions... "Like life, maybe?"

I have been beating this drum about big tech companies for so long (especially Google), and now there’s actual research about it! Companies that tout DEI do so to get investors, and treat underrepresented groups WORSE than other companies!!!!!

I just taught an intro to curb class for the first time in a while, and it felt wonderful.

So creeped out by ads for for-profit universities. Eeee.

FB has been a hellscape for a long time. Has anyone not been seeing major performance problems with it? (It might be my set up, I don't really care.) Throw in no longer paying for fact checkers, and I'm wondering if it's failing.
