This has been my conclusion as well. I played sports and ran around outside as a kid and loved it, as an adult I tried and continually failed to adopt a typical "gym workout" routine. Then, on a lark, I tried an actual sport as an adult, the joy returned, and now I'm in the best shape of my life.
