Absolutely loving this conversation. "Loathsome" is on my list for review soon, and now I am quite eager!

Listening to some @aenorex.bsky.social on my Sunday aenorex.bandcamp.com

Re-themed and redirected my websites into one: typicalbooks.com With luck, search engines won't skip a beat. If you see anything wonky let me know - thank you!

I bought a few too many books last month, but the library sale is always worth it... youtube.com/watch?v=dmcK...

The library at my workplace had a lunchtime 'what are you reading' chat so I just had to join... and wow, so many readers of Canadian authors! It was so wonderful to see! I hope they do this more often.

No one asked, but I'd LOVE to see all Canadian news agencies refuse to print images of the US President. The US flag will suffice. Maybe his entire team. Replace their face with the flag, the White House, the Liberty Bell... nice looking things. We don't need to lend to his greed and vanity.

17 new horror books out this month that caught my eye! So many covers feature a black background and bright yellow text. Lithograph or woodcut style is in vogue, as is madness and folk horror. youtube.com/watch?v=CgQZ...

Trump's attack on Canada is not about fentanyl or the border. It is an attack on our nationhood. But here's the thing: Trump is America's biggest disadvantage because he divides. But he is unifying our nation like never before. Canada #strongasfuck charlieangus.substack.com/p/the-new-wo...

"We have a lot of vampire books on the top shelf, but there are a lot of non-vampire books mixed in. Maybe we should move them out." "I thought maybe if we left them there, they'd turn into vampire books too." "... good point."

Watching the amazing Katherine Ramsland speak from the Ashland Public library this evening, virtually. Encounters with Killers is the talk and The Serial Killer's Apprentice is her latest book. She opens with the case that inspired Jack Ketchum's book The Lost. So excited for this!

Man, I wish Charlie Angus was my MP. I'd settle for hometown Vic Fedeli too. I've not been very concerned with politics, even in J-school and especially during any federal employment, but Poilievre is more often sounding like an Alan Moore character born of conservative talk radio.

One of my favourite bookstores is going live with an auction event in one hour ~ I am not sure if it works outside of the USA so I'll be watching from Canada for fun. Check out Apport Books at KJK Antiques! facebook.com/events/56380...

I had the wild experience of congratulating a friend, hero, and fellow writer on their book being on the preliminary Stoker Award ballot this evening... and that congratulatory note being the way they found out they were on it. It was heartwarming, exciting, and so damn rad. Congratulations, all.

Extreme Horror Haul ft. Edward Lee + January Reads youtu.be/JQ52QIDhM1k Right now I am reading We Used to Live Here by Marcus Kliewer - with Nick Mamatas and Eric LaRocca books up next 🦇

Meaning to write some sort of post about the US and Tiktok and am only reminded that Meta still blocks all news links for Canadians and that's somehow worse in my mind. www.google.com/amp/s/www.cb... (but we can post news links anywhere else, like this one)

Was reminded today of the time I dressed as Lydia Deetz for Halloween then promptly forgot because my actual name is Lydia and I wore my normal clothes as a 'costume'. People kept yelling "Lydia!" and I was like "Do I know you?" It was hilarious, in hindsight.

The article in Vulture about Gaiman should not be paywalled.

Here is a piece I wrote on the Trump election and the role of big tech. In my new book Dangerous Memory:Coming of Age in the Decade of Greed I look at some of these themes. The 1980s set us on the path that has brought us to this moment. www.policymagazine.ca/orwell-redux...

Wes and I finally got around to reviewing one of my favourites, The Last Voyage of the Demeter. If you loved Nosferatu, don't sleep on this one either... youtu.be/yBKS2Az5cQE?...

So Justin Trudeau has finally entered his "Charlie Angus phase" in standing up to the predator from Mar-a-Lago. The fact is, Justin wears a suit way better than me. But I opened for the Dead Kennedy's and the Violent Femmes. If he wants lessons in fighting Trump, I'll take him under my wing.

The Typical Books Quarterly is up for patreon members at Bookworm Central! www.patreon.com/posts/typica... It is a packed double-issue and a big thank you for another year of meeting up with me in the dim horror corner of the library.

Happy New Year to all ~ Hope the day starts out with a good book, and good cheer!

Vote on what book I'll pick up in January: www.patreon.com/posts/januar... - Thank you, bookworms, for another fangtastic year in books!

Perfect holiday reading ~ I'm half way through and am loving this slasher with a dash of procedural crime. Every character has a chilling backstory and it's feeling very small town Canada being set in upstate New York. A little killer POV and it's hitting perfection. A very creepy Christmas read!

Christmas horror at Dead Air Podcast with The Dorm That Dropped Blood!! splatterpictures.net/2024/12/23/d...

Wonderful! I read Spook Country ages ago and always meant to go back.

Chilling reads from @HorrorWriters - with a holiday horror or two for December - out now and coming soon! See more at horror.org/newreleases/ #read #horror

This is on special right now as a Kindle too! I've been recommending this recently - while we dig out of a foot of snow with only way more to come. Snow by Ronald Malfi: Action-packed horror chiller nightface.ca/snow-by-malfi/

Author/horror friends, please be wary of @caitlinmarceau.bsky.social and her publishing imprint Hedone Books. She took over DarkLit earlier this year and owes authors and editors there a lot of money but isn't paying up. She blocks anyone who queries her about it. Do your due diligence.

A little catch up on my reading from November and heading into the winter. youtu.be/Pi1K22Bh6T8
