I used to listen to 93Q in Houston as a kid, and 1988 and 1989 they used to broadcast from Club 6400 on Saturdays. It was a mix of synthpop, industrial, acid house, and it was glorious Of course, The Internet knows and can send me back on this gloomy Friday www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hagb...

Heard Ta-Nehishi Coates last night. One of the points he made was how it was unreasonable to expect our elected officials to defend democracy in an actionable way when for the most part they did not take any action to prevent genocide in the middle east. A lonely thought, but the fight is up to us

Started my day by dumping coffee into my expensive laptop

Whee got my studio monitors back up and running! One of my Twotwo.6 developed a weird background noise, so PMC completely replaced both amplifiers and electronics to the latest version for no charge (barely still in warranty). I've got the subwoofer too, and man they sound good

yes

I sold a piece of equipment on Reverb.com and had to drop it off at the UPS store. There was a young couple in front of me at the counter sending a small box from Seattle to Ontario, CA. I overheard the contents were a small care package of spices and a greeting card. Total cost? Over $200. Just NO

I love Chris's podcasts and articles. If you're into music history, popular music, especially if you're a Gen-Xer like me, there's a good chance you'll like his works

It always bothered me that record labels would self-report sales to calculate artist royalties. My only stint with a large label as an artist left me with zero payout after my A&R rep literally told me there were thousands of sales. The industry straight up lies to everyone, business as usual

I envy those who can productively nap

Tech industry layoffs in the past few years have been the norm, and it's an employers market. It makes sense that some labor reduction would occur after large hiring binges during COVID. A second factor at play is higher interest rates, pointing to lower bottom than 2019 employment levels

Okay so when shall we bust into the streets to protest & demand that we live in a country governed by laws? I'm ready, flu remnants or not

Update: still sick. Felt well enough to venture out to buy whiskey and ranch chips though

Still sick. Attempting to knock the flu out with wine and pho

Dangit, caught a bug on the way back from Hawaii. I could feel an itchy cough developing on the flight, and now it's full on Ferris Bueller over here

Instruments on my wish list to own someday: * Steinway Model D grand piano * Fender Rhodes electric piano * Roland System 700 Modular Kind of pointless to save for them except maybe the Rhodes. I don't have room for them anyhow!

Kauai was gorgeous. We beached. We pooled. We zip lined. We dined. We were massage fodder. Back now, but it was a great trip!

If you see this, quote with flowers from your gallery (home grown orchid)

As I thought the music industry couldn't go lower: "Instead of just asking for a fee to promote a track on their channels, these social media names were also going to request master points on tracks they were promoting. This is something they feel they are owed. " thequietus.com/opinion-and-...

I was working on a comparison side by side image of the new first lady and the hamburglar, but of course someone beat me to it

I've been perfecting a lasagna recipe over the past couple of years. It's a crowd pleaser for sure. I've just been made aware of Pastelón however, the Puerto Rican dish that resembles lasagna but instead of noodles, they use slices of plantains. I'm going to have to try it =)

Looking forward to reading the full text of the upcoming book by Liz Pelly, Mood Machine: The Rise of Spotify and the Costs of the Perfect Playlist. She dives deep into the practice of streamers contracting music "on spec" that they promote, ducking royalties harpers.org/archive/2025...

I love this video from Josh at JHS pedals. He shows how it's possible for someone on a social channel to make up a bunch of BS that snowballs into anger and misunderstanding in a community (in this case guitar pedals). Josh sets the record straight www.youtube.com/watch?v=2B-A...

Hot off the Time Machine Delorean set to 1997, here is the first volume of unreleased tracks from HEATSYNC These were staples in our live sets, so if you were around back in the day you might recognize some of them 🥳 heatsync.bandcamp.com/album/from-t...

Find out what it means to me: My new #HitParadePod, now on @slate.bsky.social, is on the Queen of Soul. Aretha didn’t just want to be worshipped—she wanted hits. And she got them—from her ’60s soulful R&B to her ’80s sassy synthpop. How’d she top the charts w/amazing grace? slate.com/podcasts/hit...

Well, this is hilarious apnews.com/article/onio...

In 2016, this time of year I was despondent, just waiting for that magic event that would turn things back around. Now, in 2024, I feel different. Reality has shifted, and so has my mood. My beliefs and principles are the same. This time, I feel more energy to be myself and refuse to be diminished

Spent a little time digging through old audio samples and putting them onto my old audio samplers today. Akai S950 and S1100 got a little warm-up jog

In Central Texas, you might have smoked brisket for breakfast
