Trying to imagine British universities standing up to govt. in the way some of the US ones are now trying. It’s difficult.

Looking at the beam in my room at the George Inn. This appears to be one of the filler dowels inserted after the tree-ring sampling carried out by Dan Miles & Mick Worthington in 1998. The timbers of this range were dated 1430-32.

KAJ have now topped the SWE singles chart for 8 consecutive weeks. This is insane. Euphoria remained on top for 6 weeks, If I Were Sorry for 5, Tattoo for 4. Unprecedented. #Eurovision

Unison is the largest women’s organization in the UK. It has a million women members. The Unison women’s conference just voted for a motion that said; “trans women are women and trans men are men” with no-one speaking against it. Transphobia is a top-down, elite practice.

There are hermaphrodite and general anomalies that do not fit the court ruling. A retrograde measure...

Imagine just half the energy campaigning against trans rights had been put into - Fighting the underfunding of women’s refuges - Fighting for single mums - Fighting for low-paid women Compared to fighting trans rights, which would have had most impact on women’s lives?

Honestly I'm glad they picked Harvard to try out this novel "we're mad" legal theory of revoking tax-exempt status, given its infinite resources, deep network of powerful alumni, and law school attended by 142 sitting federal judges. Good luck! 🫡

There is so much tragedy in the history of the Cold War - perhaps that's largely the reason I'm so interested in. I think it is fair to say that the Soviets didn't really want the Cold War, and neither did the West. But Stalin and the Soviet Union DID want to keep their prison of nations intact.

Rowling funded the 'only real women are women' supreme court decision. She is tarnishing her legacy by being constantly a bigot. I already have the Potters, but don't feel like revisiting them now.

'Much of higher education embodies a culture of disconnect that starts from the beginning .. However infuriating Westminster's silence on the English and wider UK university crisis may be, at least it's not openly calculated to bankrupt and discredit UK universities. An important read, with a sharing link for 3 non-subscribers: on.ft.com/4jel5TG

Exciting to be living through an era when we may be discovering life elsewhere. And this piece does a good job of putting in lots of qualifiers about why it may turn out not to be the case. What a time to be cutting the NASA science budget! www.bbc.com/news/article...

Once again absolutely disgusted that feminism and "protecting women" have become terms used to demonise and discriminate against some of the most vulnerable in society. You cannot legislate people out of existence. Solidarity with all my trans friends, sisters and brothers today 🏳️‍⚧️
