I don't want women to be legally defined. Any definition will be used to oppress and control us.

At least there’s been some good news today

Happy "the worst people you know popping champagne" Day to all those who celebrate

So we now have an Equalities Act that says my rights as a trans person are covered by the protected characteristic of my gender, but that I'm not legally recognised as a woman, so what is it actually protecting me against, other than explicit transphobic abuse or violence aimed towards me?

Well, today's certainly going to be one of those days when people who need to be unfollowed/unfriended/blocked are going to make it very easy for us to spot them.

I do love the childishness of TERF humour.

I've never understood how people just don't seem to get it, it's *never* been about protecting women in bathrooms (or sports, or wherever) it's about 'othering' people and stripping their (and then your) rights.

"so, to summarise, the bad guys win. but we don't want the bad guys thinking that this means they've won"

This ruling comes from a process that heard from the whole rolodex of transphobic orgs, but didn't allow any trans people to give evidence. Cool system we've got. Makes total sense. Not just a cruelty machine.

I wonder how that applies in practice... (I do not wonder)

It will be seen as a victory by all the wrong people and for all the wrong reasons. Utterly repellent.

So I wonder are more poeple gonna be transphobic? The UK Supreme Court has unanimously decided that the definition of sex under the Equality Act 2010 refers solely to biological sex, and does not include people with a Gender Recognition Certificate.

Watching the Dawn Patrol (1938) and freaked out by how much Morton Lowry looks like Wes Streeting.

Are papers actually trying to make transphobic with headlines like this?

What can you even say about people so far gone, they think *their own child dying* is a price worth paying for upholding their mad principles? Well, I know what we say when it's Hamas recruiting child soldiers in Gaza, but we could do with applying that to other situations.

Saw a terrific play last night (with the brilliant Rosie Cavaliero) about 50something sisters, but written by a 20something, and it reminded me that one of the most stupid ideas in contemporary culture is that you should only write in your own voice for your own self. Listening is core to art.

One absolutely massive problem with stretching a Harry Potter series over a decade, with at least eight episodes per book, is that every scene in the books features Harry Potter. Good luck finding an 11yo with ability and availability for that sort of filming burden.
