There has never been a better moment for the VUE to hit.

Shocked to discover there's a Moomin version of The Werckmeister Harmonies. (The Snorkmeister Harmonies?)

5 hours left! "Kazuo Hara's new work 'Minamata Mandala Part 2' has resumed filming, but production costs are in trouble. 20 years in the making, 372 minutes long. This project is seeking support for the production of the sequel to Minamata Mandala (2020)" motion-gallery.net/projects/Kaz...

"The intimate, first-person diary film seems to make the audience one with the diarist. But by cutting & omitting, the filmmaker makes them one with the diarist’s shadow self: a Frankenstein of meat & machine, vanity, sorrow, denial, base instinct, learned grammars & mediaphysical proprioception."

This, but for Robbie Williams in Better Man.

"To play is the best practice that exists in the world. Because it’s to be on stage all the time, in the present, having the body and the mind, and the memory, all the senses, with a little spirituality. Children, they don’t train, they play, but spend a colossal amount of energy.” - Denis Lavant

"To the degree that she thinks about découpage, the 'father-filmmaker' must do so across the meta-production of her home movie. Predict and compose across multiple dimensions." Read more:

As Affleck and Lopez divorce each other for the fourteenth time, take a moment to remember that Hedy Lamarr's sixth and final marriage (and divorce) was to her own divorce lawyer, Lewis J. Boies. After exhausting all possibilities, she stayed single for her remaining 35 years on this planet.

This really happened. Sarajevo, Feb '15.

The Bitter Tears Of Petra Von Kant 2: The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant In Space

"A Complete Unknown" but for Donovan starring Josh O'Connor as Donovan when?

Simpler times at the Institute. A follow-up message read, "If you receive an origami design from the Institute, do not attempt to construct it."

Happy Valentine’s Day! 💌

“The very classification “amateur” has an apologetic ring. But that very word - from the Latin “amateur” - “lover” means one who does something for the love of the thing rather than for economic reasons or necessity. And this is the meaning from which the amateur filmmaker should take his clue.”

🎥🪞A mirror in a movie needn’t obey the conventions of physics. "What is that space in the mirror, anyway? Posterity at the speed of light? A thought bubble for the primary scene? A sliver of otherworld leaned on the walls of this one?" Read more, repost♻️ & subscribe:

Still waiting for an answer on this one.

"The filmmakers attempt to shoot each other with their Bolex cameras. And not get shot. That is the game. Stalking each other around the house and around Toronto. The sound design offers a level of interactivity to a third player: the audience, who plays as witness." 📖👀 & ♻️:

Using all 160 of my IQ points trying to find a way to access full episodes of the one (1) CBeebies show my tiny intern is interested in, without a TV license

he looks like the two banshees of inisherin guys combined

One of the greatest ever movie scores was created by Hedy Lamarr's neighbour who she also co-invented #WiFi with. #TuesdayFactoids

"In the industrial cinema, a vast amount of money and effort go into disguising a movie’s shooting location & the localness of its ingredients. What a waste! The amateur movie may also conceal its location. But it cannot conceal its localness. No matter how green the one-day delivery green screen."

Wait, I think I got back onto the Good Timeline

Scapegoating refugees has always been a deliberate ploy by governments to distract from their own domestic failures. Pandering to Reform UK will backfire — and vulnerable people will pay the price. End dangerous crossings by opening safe routes for fellow human beings instead.

🐶 How the amateur can recalibrate Dziga Vertov’s “mechanical eye.” 🤟 Why the amateur is not a negative imprint of the professional but an original agent of compulsion & spirit. 💰 What Maya Deren’s weird beef with weird burglars teaches us about love. 🖍️ The toddler technique that defies mediaphysics.

"Bachelard was writing about the physical home of one’s childhood. But this space also works as a blueprint for the home moviemaker’s inner studio. The filmmaker who can access her imaginary haunted “home”-place of humility, humbleness, and intimacy holds a powerful key." Read more:

Feels like in a couple of hundred years, Kelly Reichardt's going to make a great movie set in the periphery of everything that's happening now.

🧵 How your generative software practice might begin with subtle acts of repair. 🧩 What to say when your AI sparring partner was trained dumbly on a vast body of wrong words. 🆒 ‘Textual interaction’ as a hazy playground for wordsmiths and provokers. 🗑️ “Papa ooma mow mow, papa ooma mow mow.” IFYKYK.

😮 Perhaps the people behind the 'Netflix look' have been reading our newsletter.

🤔

"A job making IRL movies for AI training will likely be thrilling & banal. The filmmaker will spend her days fulfilling the shots her agency has arranged. Her footage will be valued for its unremarkable quality: generic, comprehensive, the showroom dummy films of live-action shooting." Read more:

Watching Sara Gómez's *brilliant* two films about childbirth—Prenatal Care (1972) and Year One (1972)—made me think of Irene Lusztig's equally brilliant film The Motherhood Archives (2013). Someone should (maybe already has?) put together a series on instructional + experimental maternity films.

"It would be nice to see a version of Aprili that ends just before the ‘inciting incident.’ Instead, Iosseliani lets the editor remodel the set towards the end, sucking the lovestruck couple into the foundations of the old town for eternity, shifting the genre with his dissolves and his découpage."
