Sceptical of rumor control, process and don’t think we Red Team anywhere near enough. Apparently woke’r than the average defence commentator. (they/them)

Whilst the noise might play well in the short term to the base, especially as a distraction to what they’re actually implementing at home, it seems that Zelensky’s experience of wartime diplomacy is likely to mop the floor with Trump’s team.

What makes you uncomfortable doesn’t make me unqualified.

President Trump's purge at the Pentagon is a major step toward creating an officer corps personally and absolutely loyal to him, @radiofreetom.bsky.social writes. theatln.tc/V6pB4qcF

📌I was the managing editor at Stars and Stripes and can tell you that Pete Hegseth is the first SecDef I am aware of to be openly booed by military families on a military base. 📌This is the most significant pushback I have seen to this administration's racist, hostile initiatives.

As the frenzy around NATO spending dominates the defence debate, it’s worth noting whose budget has been reducing👇🇺🇸. And when you factor in how much US spending is outside the NATO area a very different picture emerges. We all need to spend more, but let’s be measured about it.

Wow — “Dozens of American students at a U.S. military installation in Germany walked out of their middle school on Tuesday as part of protests aimed at an official visit by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth…” www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...

Most who serve aren’t here for his hate. We need more of this energy. READ MORE: www.nbcnews.com/politics/nat...

I mean who hasn’t mislaid some anti-tank mines in their time… 👀

Estonia has officially disconnected from the Russian energy system. The moment of disconnection was shown on the Internet. The country is now independent of Russian networks. Lithuania and Latvia are also expected to complete the disconnection by the end of 9 February.

Whilst practice hasn’t always followed doctrine, and many haven’t thought it through to the individual, competent militaries have understood the value of #diversity for a long time; Taskorg’ing, Battle Groups and Brigade Combat Teams are all diversity in action.

“…if you ignore the rules, people will, half the time, quietly rewrite them so they don’t apply to you…” a timely quote from Terry Pratchett’s ‘Equal Rites’.

What people who understand National Security know is that international aid is a national security tool, part of a three legged stool with diplomacy and defence. The balance is always up for debate and review, but the need for all three is really not unless you want to tip over.

Interesting to watch politicians say they want to increase Defence spending whilst cutting the Civil Service. Classic do more with less. If you want Defence to do more you need, amongst others, more Civil Servants people have to processes and plan, and make stuff happen.

Trump’s annoyed the EU "don't take our cars, don't take our farm products, they take almost nothing and we take everything from them. Millions of cars, tremendous amounts of food and farm products…" I think that’s more to do with the quality of European and US cars and farm products than unfairness.

I mean Trump’s tariffs appear to have done Trudeau an unwanted, but massive favour. Across multiple bubbles it seems Canadians are squarely behind him, including his opposition. He may leave office on a very real high, immortalised in Canadian history for standing up to a bully. 🇨🇦

US military support for diversity isn’t a new woke thing that people recently made up. My 1989 departure gift from the 193d Support Battalion is our unit crest with the words “Strength In Diversity” prominently displayed. Diversity is a weight bearing pillar of the military, not a decorative add-on

This is why I am rather troubled at how many supposed "allies" are skipping over the "DEI" implications for women in defense.

Even Doocy is struggling to square the "DEI Crisis that definitely caused this crash" with "commercial aviation is totes safe, y'all".

Excellent post

Just a reminder that diversity is, in fact, a source of strength, that diverse and inclusive armies outperform exclusionary ones on modern battlefields, and that this anti-DEI witch hunt will actually harm cohesion in the US military I'm gonna send Pete a copy of my book

Guys, nothing gets leaked faster than an email complaining about leaks. I don't make the rules. news.bloomberglaw.com/us-law-week/...

Can you be a good military leader without even a passing interest in Diversity & Inclusion? Surely leaders must be interested in the diversity of their units, partner or allied forces, even the enemy, and want to understand their people enough to get of their best?

Whatever you think of the growth of inclusive leadership over the years, I think the deletion of factual history from USAF syllabi because it might be considered ‘diverse’ shows that it will take a lot of moral courage for leaders to resist a return to a greater tolerance of toxic leadership.

Frustrating, but also fascinating, that so many concepts I remember being settled when I was in junior school (taught by some pretty old school science teachers) are somehow now up for debate outside the scientific community, even when they’re still settled within.

Considering working groups are typically established to resolve an issue, I wonder how long it will be before the issues they were set up to resolve start having the impact they had that made establishment of a working group necessary in the first place.

Breaking: The United States asks adversaries for a one-year “time out” to allow Pete Hegseth to learn how to run a complex, 3-million person organization.

100%. Pulling out of Paris and stepping back from climate finance is a self-own in the competition with China.

Wow. Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde fearlessly calls out Trump and Vance to their faces. This is heroic. (posting in 3 parts due to Bluesky's 1 minute limit)

Well, regardless of the merits of the case, looks clear that elements of organised push back have started. It will be interesting to see how many court cases the Administration is defending in six months time.

Hour one without tiktok. I went outside and built a fire from leaves and sticks. I foraged for my dinner and died from listeria

Similar to about a third of the electorate not voting in the Brexit referendum. Like first past the post, the electoral college distorts the fact mandates are rarely as clear as either sides make out. As the US system has elections every two years there’s not long to tweak plans accordingly.
