National Poetry Month ~ Barbara Kingsolver —How to resist the kiss, the body forbidden that plucks the long vibrating string of want

This is really unfair to everyone who just voted for him for the racism.

“We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Sometimes we must interfere.” Elie Wiesel (1928-2016), writer and Auschwitz survivor #HandsOff ‼️

Fight fascism. They leave you no choice if you what to be free of their hate, ignorance and tyranny

Fascism isn’t gonna overthrow itself. It can only be overthrown by ordinary people leading ordinary lives, waking up to the fact that they are living through extraordinary times #fascism #democracy #HandsOff

They hanged a horsethief three times one day in Austin, Nevada, because the hangman couldn't get the length of rope adjusted properly; but he was a conscientious public official and kept at it until he got it right. ~William Least Heat-Moon, BLUE HIGHWAYS #SundaySentence

Mark Kelly: "This is not surprising. Here's a guy who told Americans to inject bleach into their bodies, who sent a mob to Capitol Hill. And now I think it's fair to say he stands out as singlehandedly destroying more wealth with his bad decisions than anybody else who has ever lived on this planet"

So my phone started blowing up last night because guess who's on the banned book list at the naval academy? Yours truly. Go support an author today and buy a book off of this this list... Doesn't even have to be mine. Gift link coming

Just in case you missed this from Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker: "Bullies respond to one thing, and one thing only: a punch in the face."

Today, a 2fer #SundaySentence No place, in theory, is boring of itself. Boredom lies only with the traveler’s limited perception and his failure to explore deeply enough. —William Least Heat-Moon, Blue Highways As soon as I leave it, I think, what WAS that city? —Leslie Jamison, The Empathy Exams

My #sundaysentence this week is from journalist Anne Applebaum's seriously disturbing new book, Autocracy Inc: "Sometimes the point isn't to make people believe a lie; it's to make people fear the liar."

chastising yourself for what you havent been doing will not encourage you to accomplish your goal, it will encourage you to chastise yourself.

"We are living through the age of algorithmocracy: a new form of influence on public opinion which is so powerful, it signals the end of democracy and the end of politics altogether."

They're coming after the Smithsonian now, for "divisive race-centered ideology", for "ideological indoctrination." This includes the National Zoo. It's an EO and EOs are not law, but this appalling attempt to further whitewash US history is upon us. #Smithsonian #museum #history #anthropology

good advice, wake up, #MAGats.

If we’re going to find our way out of this it’s going to be through art, through love, through love that seems foolish and naive and reckless. It’s going to take a reawakening of what it means to be human, to be connected in a fearless way. This bloodless machine has to be dismantled, destroyed.

This is no joke.

“I like fat buttery words, such as ooze, turpitude, glutinous, toady. I like solemn, angular, creaky words, such as straitlaced, cantankerous, pecunious, valedictory. I like spurious, black-is-white words, such as mortician, liquidate, tonsorial, demi-monde…” #SundaySentence. Robert Pirosh

For World Poetry Day, one of my favorite poems by ~ Dr. Maya C. Popa - Reprise You were a child, and I will never have a child with you, that wasted tenderness where might have lived a world. On earth, it will matter little that we met—

America was given a choice between a lawless, amoral monster and a qualified, intelligent, joyful woman of color—and it chose the monster. We need to reckon with the reality of what that says about so many of us here. johnpavlovitz.substack.com/p/america-ch...

You own everything that happened to you. Tell your stories. If people wanted you to write warmly about them, they should have behaved better. ~ Anne Lamott Bird by Bird

If you’re protesting this weekend, know your rights.

Also a bowl of tangerines in sunlight, for a moment's pause, there for everyone doing the work.

My wife shared this today. She is the best. #poetry
