A trip to Harperley POW camp today. A fabulous heritage asset that has been closed for a while. The pictures were painted by the prisoner. In partnership with the owners, we are organising guided tours this summer. Please let me know if interested in a visit!

Lord Mandelson has said "The president is a nice person, is a fair-minded person, and that's why I feel quite confident that, when as I say he does look at my credentials he'll think 'right, I think this guy could work well for both our countries and our special relationship". Deluded!

I love how Denmark isn’t taking any shit from Donald Trump. 🇩🇰 🤣

The entrance to the mine at Hamsteels colliery in 1939. The village of the same name was one of the few Category 'D' villages to be completely demolished. The site of the village is now an empty field. Image credited to John Parkin. #industrialarchaeology #mining #countydurham #rehoming #categoryd

The 14th century Brancepeth Castle in County Durham. This view of the castle can only be seen on a tour as the front of the castle is relatively contemporary.

West Rigg Opencut. The black narrow void was created by lead mining.

Enjoying my Bluesky experience, especially with all the lovely archaeology folk I've followed or followed me. Anyone out there share my interest in industrial archaeology?

A bit of surprise industrial archaeology: this ditch water stream, walked along a hundred times, was scrubbed clean by the recent torrential rain - and it’s a brick lined channel presumably left behind by the long gone branch line. Fascinating to see such a presence of labour suddenly revealed.
