Staying up late into the night to participate in this incredible panel of doctoral students and early career scholars discussing TikTok, social media, and grief. More info about the project organizing the symposium can be found here: www.themourningafter.net

Next Monday 10th, I'll be participating in the online symposium "TikTok + Grief," which examines social grief and how we can find connection through it all. I'm excited that I'll be presenting some of my work on feminist protest anthems and their online circulation! You can register online here πŸ‘‡πŸ»

Oscar season is approaching, and there's been a LOT of discussion about the controversial nominee Emilia Perez. To move beyond the memes and jokes, I wrote this reflection to examine the film’s problematic use of the figure of the disappeared detainees. You can check it out here πŸ‘‡πŸ»

How does music build solidarity? Check out this new article by Steering Committee member @valeproust.bsky.social to learn more: bit.ly/3QcZFtx @asc.upenn.edu @bzelizer.bsky.social

This month's #CriticalQuestion comes from @valeproust.bsky.social. An expert in feminist solidarity practices and cultural memory, Vale's work focuses on how marginalized communities use affectively mediatized memory to challenge dominant narratives. Read more here: bit.ly/42QhAgP @asc.upenn.edu

Excited to share that my newest academic article just got published at Continuum: Journal of Media & Cultural Studies! In this paper, I explore the use of protest songs in contemporary social movements and their connection to the memory of past resistance movements. You can check it out here πŸ‘‡πŸ»

Rolling Stone shared its list of the 100 best protest songs. Though it could include more non-Anglo cases, it is a great exercise to listen to these songs and think about their affective power to gather people and create networks of solidarity (which we need with much urgency in present times)

It's been great to use this winter break to finally catch up on some movies that I was waiting to watch. I made a Letterboxd to share my silly little thoughts on every thing I'm watching. I'm still learning how the platform works, but if you follow, I'll follow back! πŸ‘‰ boxd.it/8tj69

What can feminist collectives teach media practitioners about building a more just, equal, and inclusive future? In this reflection that I wrote for @ascmediarisk.bsky.social I explore their solidarity practices, responses to global challenges, and lessons for ethical media. Read more here! πŸ‘‡πŸ»

See you in Chicago next year @scmstudies.bsky.social! #SCMS2025

Organized by PhD and Postdoc fellows @annenbergcargc.bsky.social, a conf. focused on the role of media and communication scholarship in times of global crises: www.asc.upenn.edu/news-events/.... Please spread the word! Also, we're lucky to have Nabil Echchaibi as our keynote speaker!

Happy to hear that I'll be presenting some of my work on affects, social movements, and sound/silence next Spring at LASA2025! The name of the panel (Senses, Emotions and Affects in the Arts) is already exciting, and I can't wait to learn from the rest of the scholars who will be presenting at it.

I wanted to use my first post to highlight the amazing symposium I helped organize earlier this fall at Annenberg Penn, which was dedicated to discussing and reflecting on Transnational Feminist Networks (which couldn't fit the current context better). More details about the panels and topics here!

Hello, bsky! It's fitting to use my first post to announce our upcoming event on Academe in the Age of Social Media: Scholarly Inquiry at Risk? Details here: www.asc.upenn.edu/news-events/.... @ascmediarisk.bsky.social
