I’ve been out of town so a bit behind on things but I liked this one. Black History Month remembers.

Why put the achievements of our Black History Month heroes each day? Because every 1 of them has had a positive impact on the human experience. Know their names, tell their stories. No matter how much narcissistic people want to rewrite history, they will not have the same impact.

Years ago I traveled for work quite a bit to Africa. I traveled to DRC right after it was no longer Zaire. I have stories. But I do remember one night sitting and talking with an engineer about the situation in their country. He told me this story about the previous week…

Mildred Loving (1939-2008) was a Black woman whose marriage to a white man, Richard Loving, challenged Virginia's anti-miscegenation laws. Their Supreme Court case, Loving v. VA (1967), declared such laws unconstitutional, striking down a major pillar of racial segregation in the US. #BlackHistory

The work of Annie J Easley, a scientist, was instrumental in a variety of NASA projects such as Centaur rocket, a first of its kind rocket using unique fuel system. Her work led to the development of batteries used in hybrid cars. Black History Month remembers.

Patricia Era Bath developed the laser phaco probe, a medical device used in eyes. It is instrumental in dissolving cataracts. She was granted 5 patents for her work with tech, lasers, ultrasound & eyes. Thank her if a loved 1 has had cataract treatment. Black History Month remembers.

Valerie Thomas worked at NASA from the 60s to the 90s leading to the development of the first satellite to send images from space. She patented the illusion transmitter, an early form of 3D technology. The tech she developed is still used by NASA. Black History Month remembers.

This literally made me laugh out loud because when I first saw the hotline I thought how lovely it would be if people just called saying “these people look like they don’t belong here” for every performative ICE and made up authority presence. But this works too.
