I’m just going to keep telling myself, “I think I can. I think I can. I think I can.” And keep doing as much science as I can for as long as I can. 🙏🙏🙏

#NewPI and senior #postdocs in hematology, submit your abstract by Feb 26th for the opportunity to speak at our virtual mini symposium on March 26th! It’s a great opportunity to raise awareness of your research/lab and might win you a travel grant to the @isehsociety.bsky.social annual meeting!

What a great resource! My lab has struggled in the past with some of the exact variables interrogated here. A must read for anyone diving into human HSCs! Methodological Considerations on How to Identify Human Hematopoietic Stem Cells - Experimental Hematology www.exphem.org/article/S030...

And @ash.hematology.org is committed to equitable access to hematology clinical and research training, so don’t forget about the Hematology Inclusion Pathway #HIP awards too! #ScienceIsInOurBlood

For those of you who tried to access this but found it was initially behind a paywall, it is now open access.

For any #NewPIs that need to train RAs on mouse colony maintenance, check this out!

More than 75 Nobel Prize winners have signed a letter urging senators not to confirm RFK Jr. The letter marks the first time in recent memory that Nobel laureates have banded together against a Cabinet choice. But Kennedy is a threat they could not ignore, one said. www.nytimes.com/2024/12/09/h...

You have to believe you can write a manuscript in a week, so that it will end up only taking three months.

The director of faculty affairs at my school sent me this article, and although it's an oldie, I think it's still a goodie! It really validates the was I've been thinking about this wild ride as a #NewPI. www.scientificamerican.com/blog/guest-b...

What do we need for science? 'An atmosphere of enthusiasm, lucid criticism, nonconformism, and friendship.' (F. Jacob)

How to write a grant? 1. The application is for the reviewer, not you, the applicant. 2. Communicate in stories. 3. Make your story cohesive—leave no puzzling gaps. 4. Make your story resonate to keep the reviewer reading. 5. Accept chance and noise in peer-review. www.pnas.org/doi/epub/10....

One of my favourite poems.

Saying ‘I don’t know’ in talks has become a lost art, unfortunately. Super interesting discussions require us to be open about what we don’t know and what still needs to be explored. Here’s my recipe for answering questions in talks:
