If you're in the UK you'd like a pause from banging your head on the table in agonised despair & belief, there's this petition. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/71...

Please consider signing this petition to the Secretary of State for Education asking for (more) coverage in the school curriculum on climate and environment. And a link to a story about the campaign in the TES: www.tes.com/magazine/new... www.globalactionplan.org.uk/news/open-le...

Super irritated by how long the form is for the consultation on data mining - can't help but think they made it unnecessarily complicated and lengthy in order to deter people from filling it out. BUT DON'T BE DETERRED! And here is a handy guide from ALCS. www.alcs.co.uk/news/your-ri...

Still a few hours left to take a stand against AI's theft of creative works - help with answering the survey available here: againstthebox.substack.com/p/time-to-ha... survey link here: www.gov.uk/government/c...

Very much looking forward to this conversation next week about how Humanities training is being used in environment-related jobs. Tuesday, March 4, 4:30-6:00pm, TORCH building, with Alex Lawrence of the Forestry Service, and Khem Rogaly of @cmmonwealth.bsky.social.

Less DOGE; more dog.

I think it might be high time to revive the Situationnists. I feel like @rpanchasi.bsky.social might be with me? Maybe @picharbonnier.bsky.social ?

No!!!!! How did I miss this?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?! Gutted :(

Congratulations @dollyjorgensen.bsky.social !

Just saw the new NEH guidelines. How literal is ‘activities’ or ‘initiatives’? Will a history book about trans people or environmental justice be out of contention moving forward? If these guidelines are tight then what on earth is going to get funded?????

First trip to the garden store of the season. I am celebrating this warm sunny day with a bang!

I have been trying to give blood SINCE JULY. The NHS is desperate for donations, but at the same time doesn't have the resources to receive them. It's maddening.

Just learned that in British English 'that' and 'which' are interchangeable and I'm going to need to take a few days off to process this horror.

Did Mitchell's term 'economentality' take off? Any good articles/books out there that put it to use? Paging @aaronjakes.bsky.social, @quinnslobodian.com, @epopppp.bsky.social, @asociologist.bsky.social . Thanks!

Never underestimate the power of a baking project to calm the nerves. This was delicious.

Perfect lazy morning over here.

Learned in class this week that my first-year students hadn't previously heard the term 'Anthropocene', and we academics are spilling heaps of ink on its utility, its start date, etc. Powerful reminder about the gap between the ivory tower and the rest of the world.

Please forgive the self-promotion but, in case of interest to anyone, I'm bringing hip-hop history to the @ihr.bsky.social @ihrbritainseminar.bsky.social next Thursday. All welcome in-person or online, details / registration info here: www.history.ac.uk/events/strai...

I'm very glad I read to the end.

Diogenes with sound advice for dealing with billionaires. From Herakleitos and Diogenes, translated by Guy Davenport

Seems rather important at a time when there is foolish talk of a third runway at Heathrow ... petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70...

It's been a while since I posted a dad joke. Why can't you breed an eel with an eagle? It's eeleagle.

🚨History job in the Department of History at @uni-of-warwick.bsky.social Research Fellowship ‘Traumatised Minds, Neurosis and Hysteria in Soviet Medicine and Culture, 1917-1953’ 🗃️ 👇👇👇 warwick-careers.tal.net/vx/lang-en-G...
