I have so much empathy for everyone writing queer characters for a mixed audience, as somebody doing it myself. I, at least, am completely indie so there's nobody above me to force me to change things. All I can do is try to be true to myself and my characters.

There is no reason to use Gen AI to illustrate anything. There’s excellent clipart you can get very cheaply. A lot of human illustrators will do something very cheaply if they believe in the project and know your funds are limited. Gen AI is created from stolen labor.
