Najee Seabrooks was a violence intervention professional who was killed by police during a mental health crisis two years ago. The Paterson Healing Collective recently held a healing of reflection to commemorate his life. ejusa.org/remembering-...

Our new report—developed in partnership with two Berks County-based organizations, Building Justice in Berks and The Real Deal 610—amplifies the voices of 121 residents impacted by incarceration in the county community: www.vera.org/publications...

Everyone wants to live in safe and stable communities. And most Americans want a fair and orderly immigration system. The Trump administration’s attacks on sanctuary cities will do nothing to achieve these goals. www.vera.org/news/what-is...

The #NewYork State budget for FY26 is a missed opportunity to reestablish the state as a leader on fairness and justice for all. We call on lawmakers to act before the legislative session ends: Pass the Earned Time Act and the Second Look Act. Our full statement:

The Fairness to Freedom Act is a powerful step toward justice—ensuring no one faces deportation alone. That’s why we rallied in #WashingtonDC last week for its reintroduction. Let’s protect our communities and make #DueProcess4All a reality: secure.vera.org/a/fair2free

The Trump administration has directly attacked Vera: it cut $5 million from our public safety programs and threatened to install a team from DOGE in our office. Through the Emergency Justice Fund you can help sustain our evidence-based programs, no matter what comes next. Are you with us?

#Fact: When local police and state agencies do NOT cooperate with ICE, it leads to safer communities. The New York For All Act would ensure that this is the standard across the state. As cruelty and chaos persist under the current federal administration, bold state action is more urgent than ever.

#ApplyNow: Vera and Results for America are seeking applications from government and community partners looking to implement and strengthen evidence-based diversion programs. Priority applications are due June 6, for additional information, click the link ⬇️ results4america.org/diversion/

The criminal legal system is meant to hold people accountable and uphold public safety. But our current overreliance on incarceration and punishment has led to more crime. Here's how we break the cycle of crime and build stronger, safer communities:

This week, the Trump administration announced an executive order targeting sanctuary cities. Like all of President Trump’s actions on immigration, this will do nothing to build safer communities. In the words of Vera’s Shayna Kessler, this move is “just another continued example of scare tactics.”

This administration has systematically attacked every aspect of civil society, from academia to law firms and the media, and is now coming after the nonprofit sector. While we are the first to be targeted, we know that we will not be the last.

This year, the White House chose not to recognize April as #SecondChanceMonth, missing a key opportunity to highlight barriers to reentry for formerly incarcerated people. It’s the first year without a presidential proclamation since the Trump administration first recognized the occasion.

Immigrants contribute immensely to this country’s culture, workforce, and economy. But despite their ties to the U.S., immigrants are at risk of losing everything because of the current administration’s cruel deportation agenda.

Sanctuary cities... ➡️ prioritize the safety and well-being of all residents by limiting cooperating with federal immigration authorities ➡️ ARE in compliance with federal law ➡️ average 35.5 fewer crimes per 10,000 people than non-sanctuary counties.

We joined partners, immigrant New Yorkers, elected officials, and allies in #Albany yesterday to rally support for the New York For All Act. This landmark legislation would protect all New Yorkers by prohibiting state and local government agencies from colluding with ICE.

Today, @robertgarcia.bsky.social reintroduced the Securing Help for Immigrants through Education and Legal Defense (SHIELD) Act, critical legislation that would equip states and localities with the resources needed to defend immigrant communities and keep families together. Our full statement:

"Although the idea of a 'second chance' is celebrated, the reality is that the door to opportunity remains shut for millions of Americans coming out of prison." #SecondChanceMonth is ending, but the work to remove barriers to housing, jobs, and more for formerly incarcerated people must continue.

#WashingtonDC: Today, we join @npnewamericans.bsky.social, immigrant rights advocates, and elected officials in the nation’s capital for the reintroduction of the #FairnessToFreedomAct, urging Congress to make #DueProcess4All a reality. Our full statement:

🚨 Families hunted down. Rights & protections stripped. No lawyers in immigration court. No #DueProcess4All. Right now, families face deportation without a lawyer. This is a due process crisis. The #FairnessToFreedom Act would change that.

🚨 President Trump’s latest executive order targeting sanctuary cities continues his cruel attacks on immigrant communities. Last night, the Trump administration announced plans to expand its ability to separate families, detain immigrant community members, and undermine public safety.
