Somewhat confused today. Your birth certificate can be used to prove you are a U.S. citizen to vote or get a passport. BUT a case now at the Supreme Court argues that the 14th Amendment does NOT confer citizenship based on being born in the U.S. Where does that leave us re: proof of citizenship?

The SAVE act would have voters produce a birth certificate to prove citizenship, and it must match a valid ID, affecting millions of women. BUT then there is talk about not granting citizenship based on being born in the U.S., i.e. revoking the 14th amendment. What good is the birth cert then?

We watch a movie almost every night. I post a quote for others to guess what movie it is from. One quote from last night: "It's kind of the land due process forgot." Struck me that it describes the U.S. after the deportations this past weekend. We must not let that be our legacy.

Pam Bondi (DOJ) eliminated The Foreign Influence Task Force. This entity worked with intelligence community, law enforcement partners, & election officials to combat foreign interference of U.S. democratic processes. So no one will be focused on foreign interference in things like - elections.

I've been chuckling for days. Rick Scott's recent newsletter touted his involvement with a "Protect Our Seniors" Act. My military mind always thinks of the acronyms. Which means this is the POS act.

Seems to me that DOGE more accurately stands for Department of Government Extermination.

When I read about "putting USAID in the wood chipper" I think about prudent gardening practices. One prunes a plant, unless one is trying to eradicate it. So we can tell from the language that cleaning or improving is not the goal. Destruction is the goal. All programs are on the chopping block.

Morning musing - sports rivalries seem to be more intense and the feelings have permeated politics. My "team" wins and I get to brag. My "party" wins and I get to make your life miserable. Whatever happened to friendly rivalries? Let alone the idea of working towards a more perfect union.

Morning musing: Calling 6 Jan 2021 a "day of love" is a step to create a mythic version of the day. From Geo Washington and the cherry tree, this country has relied on myths and legends to justify actions. But "manifest destiny" allowed genocide. & "trickle down" econ just gave more to the rich.

6 January 2021. Washington DC. I have not forgotten.

Morning musing - Billionaires giving a million or two to Trump (for his inauguration?) are no different than the kid on the playground giving his lunch money to the class bully. Both actions just encourage the bully and the payments have to continue...or else.

Tonight's movie quote: Your mother and I will be here. Now with more time for hanky panky.

Medal from today's half marathon. 26th half this year; 51st race this year.

Tonight's movie quote: "Are you sure about this?" "No. Let's go."

My medal from today's 5K. But chilly at the start but felt good once we started moving. Up tomorrow - the half marathon!

Musk is not satisfied with being the de facto President of the United States. He is seeking to expand his power globally, pushing far-right xenophobes in the UK and Germany.

Tonight's movie quote: Where are you migrating to this year? The breakfast nook?

Tonight's movie quote: I want to comply. I just find the order of those threats very confusing.

Tonight's movie quote: Don't worry. Their teeth are made of pumpkin. They can't really hurt us.

This will be my look for the Manatee Marathon tomorrow in Wakulla Springs, FL.

Tonight's movie quote: "I can't go to Germany." "Why?" "I got..homework."

Tonight's movie quote: "I have to stay up all night and clean all of this up!" "There are TWO plates!"

The one with the blue ribbon is the finisher metal. The one with the red ribbon is my first place age group award. Really fun day and wonderful weather out on the runway in Pensacola, FL.

6 Jan 2021, Washington D.C. I have not forgotten.
