had this convo with a colleague the other day. the "wow, this depravity surprises you? ha, nothing surprises me anymore" posture is just sardonic and lame. you should be able to access feelings like compassion and anger, its what makes people human. politically, it also makes them like you. fight.

i love "banksy is the exact same type of leftist as me" discourse. happens once every two years or so

researching magritte. is there a book about his series "la condition humaine?" all of these are sick. best surrealist and its not close imo

you need to understand that D&D 2024/OneD&D/5.5e is really stupid and bad and you shouldn't use it when 5e is right there fuck you wizards i hate you

Thus ever did rebellion find rebuke.

Per-capita CO2 emissions in the US have dropped by nearly 30% since the year 2000. We are trending rapidly in the right direction, though we still have a long way to go. Roll up your sleeves if you're able - we can really do this! 🧪 Source: ourworldindata.org/co2/country/...

Thou talk’st of nothing.

I get but disagree w Daramola's review here, but I want to point one specific thing out. In both published and letterboxd takes on Anora I'm seeing comparisons to Safdie movies. Where is everyone getting this? The anxiety from Uncut Gems is not there. defector.com/anora-gets-l...

WICKED is fine. a decently entertaining adaptation of wonderful source material. Grande is the standout; thinking of the movie without her is a little grim. it looks terrible, 'Defying Gravity' especially is poorly lit cgi slop. inoffensive as far as massive blockbusters go, but feels disappointing.

A thread devoted to groundbreaking photographer, writer & filmmaker Gordon Parks, who was born on this day in 1912

The way I’d put it is…a not insignificant portion of the internet—and the world, I guess—defines themselves not by the things they do and love, but their opposition to others. When you take that away, they’re bereft of purpose.

CONCLAVE is a mid film that's worth a watch with delicious ritual and pomp and impassioned men yelling at each other. there's one good monologue/homily on faith/religion, and the final twist is so incoherent it can't be called anything but stupid, even though i think its going for *something*

Kissick has it right with the wrong intentions, as opposed to wrong with the right intentions. There is an epidemic of over-explained trite and boring art, but its cause as the elevation of "politics" (as dogwhistley as he uses it) is as shallow as the art he hates. harpers.org/archive/2024...

god what a mess. cpd gets to dodge a court order for 5 years and gets away with it. need some adults in the room who can audit and hold cpd accountable in literally any way.

WAR EAGLE WTF

"If a woman doesn't look woman enough to a Republican, they want to be able to inspect your genitals to use a bathroom? It's disgusting. Everyone should reject it completely... they're endangering women, they're endangering girls of all kind, and everyone should reject it. It's gross." - AOC
