Math is hard

Oh, look what normal countries do when a former president leads a far right coup attempt.

They don't want to teach history so they can repeat it.

With Handmaids Tale people focus on the shock of the mass rapes in the book and the show. But how the regime came to be in power in that book keeps me awake at night because it is playing out in very intricate detail in our real lives right now.

This is not a good combination of trending topics 😬

The US is going to push itself to the brink of destruction, if not right over the cliff.

In addition to being civic degenerates these people are in every case infantile, sloppy and incompetent. Grand flourishes of performative cruelty followed by entitled pleas of "I don't know how to do this. Can you help?"

For all their talk of making america great, they really hate this country

A reminder: Vladimir Putin could end the war in Ukraine right now, just by ordering his soldiers to go home. No need for treaties or negotiations.

One of these days we're gonna have to reckon with the fact that "money that I spend which does not directly benefit me is a waste" is a popular sentiment. I think we should state plainly that this is selfish on its face. And stupid when you have awareness which extends beyond your nose.

they are going to do the tariffs and fly the country’s economy into the side of a mountain

Bertrand Russell wrote this over 100 years ago, in 1923. Hasn't aged a day.

This comic gets shared every year with the date changed. It is by Brazilian cartoonist Glauco Villas Boas (1957-2010).

Wikipedia is the last good website, the one staple of the early internet that hasn't been degraded by pursuit of profit. It's not an acceptable academic source—it's subject to change—but it's a great first cut, and has citations to acceptable sources. We can't let post-truth reactionaries ruin it.

find it genuinely delighting that people with enough money to never work again (and do literally anything they want anywhere in the world at any time) seemingly have nothing going on in their lives and are so miserable they are just spending the holidays frantically posting

I’m giving away some of my unplayed games to increase my presence on Bluesky. Repost with a holiday comment and I’ll choose a random winner from all reposts on the 25th, 27th, 29th, and 31st of December. Free shipping in US only. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

Canadian MP Charlie Angus just sounded off on Trump. "So yes, they are our neighbors, but we've stood up to them. We're in a different situation with Trump, a convicted predator, who's seriously undermining the democratic process in the US. And he thinks he can just push us around. He insults us."

I did my first "Sounds interesting, let's touch base after the holidays" today, and it felt great. Did not specify that I meant Easter. They'll figure it out.

“A moment which, for many, feels so overwhelming, is a great moment to remember that some of the most meaningful acts of resistance are actions that can, in practice, look more like workplace procrastination than like outright battle.” thecycle.substack.com/p/how-to-be-...

If you’re afraid that books might change someone’s thinking, you’re not afraid of books, you’re afraid of thinking.

despite the world becoming scary i still have a perhaps niave but unwaivering belief that a better world is possible
