For the evening crowd… Obviously, everything is awful and nothing really matters. But if you need a break from the constant outrage and are so inclined, check out my review of Conclave.

📽️ In the wake of Pope Francis’s death, I finally got the chance to see Conclave. It’s quite excellent. And as a lapsed Catholic, I was surprised at how I internalized the film’s message. Oh, and I do discuss the twist ending so… consider this your spoiler warning. thefilmlegacy.com/2025/06/12/c...

With a 3-year-old, I feel like I get to game in 15-minute bursts (if I’m lucky). Just finished Act I in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and my jaw is on the floor. What a twist! Delightful game, and deserves all the accolades!

“It is the “Citizen Kane” of second-screen entertainment. Every frame rewards inattention.” I reviewed Fountain of Youth. With my flamethrower. Dear lord, what a lump of nothing. www.rogerebert.com/reviews/foun...

Had one of those rare no-plan weekends where my daughter demanded we stay home all weekend and “do nothing.” Finally finished Andor: Season 2 (incredible storytelling, horrifically depressing), started Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (as good as everyone says!), and read more John Gwynne. I’m happy.

Embraced my inner @mattzollerseitz.bsky.social and wrote one of my most personal pieces yet. It’s been hard to love the movies (or anything, really) in 2025, and it was Thunderbolts* (of all things!) that just absolutely demolished me. thefilmlegacy.com/2025/05/15/w...

“What frightens me is that my love for watching movies, which has been a constant presence in my life for a very long time, has suddenly stopped bringing me joy.” — a powerful piece that I suspect will speak to a lot of people right now

Gaaaah, was able to preorder the Switch 2!! LET'S GO!!!

The Fall Guy I love movies that offer an insider glimpse into the craft of moviemaking. And let's be honest: Is there anything cooler than watching stunt performers bring movie magic to life? With that in mind, I was very excited to see how The Fall Guy would tell a story while highlighting the…

My wife has worked for the FDA for the last 15 years, and today she received an email at 5:16am informing her that she was terminated due to a reduction in force. We are shell-shocked. We have a 3-year-old daughter. So much for trying for a second, now we have to scramble to just survive.

Oh HELL yes!!

I don’t know how Severance was able to top the finale of the first season, but WOW did it bring the heat with the Season 2 finale! 🤯

Nosferatu (2024) Even though I knew Nosferatu was essentially a retelling of “Dracula,” I left all expectations and preconceived notions at the door. Honestly, it was a little hard to do. Sure, I enjoy a good vampire film—but what really unnerved me was the director. This is Robert Eggers’s fourth…

I’ve spent the last two weeks making detailed plans about what I would do during a government shutdown. I dusted off my old manuscript, and started majorly overhauling it. Fell in love with my story all over again. And now… I guess I’ll just put it away? I am so tired of always being exhausted 😩

The Gorge The Gorge feels like a film that has sat in a time capsule for the last 30 years. It's the kind of film I would have stumbled on while randomly flipping channels, and then wound up totally sucked in until it ended. And once it ended, I probably wouldn't have given it another thought.…

With a looming government shutdown that looks pretty grim, I think I’ll dust off my manuscript this weekend and prep a writing schedule to keep me busy in the event I’m out of work for a bit… 😮‍💨

The Banshees of Inisherin Serving up equal parts comedy and tragedy, The Banshees of Inisherin is a masterful dissection of male loneliness and the expression of anger. The film centers around the one-sided dissolution of a friendship, and it immediately felt familiar to me. As someone who has…

Cannot get over how excellent Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is. Pete’s battle with the Scorpion was astonishing. I had a LOT of reservations about the characters and art style, but this is a true love letter to the comics. Adored it!

📽️ Wrote a little bit about how we’re living in the forgotten era of film, and how much it blows. With the fragmenting of pop culture, will we ever recapture the feeling of easily discovering a hidden gem? I really hope so.

I am so excited for the new Astro Bot Winter Wonder DLC. Astro Bot is the first game my 3-year-old daughter watched me play from start to finish, and she is absolutely obsessed with Christmas. She is going to LOSE HER MIND when she learns we have a new level to play.

📽️ I haven’t posted a movie review in a little bit, so let’s fix that. I finally caught Twisters, and had way too much fun with it. It’s very good!

Happy birthday to me! Maybe my hardest challenge today… deciding which of the 13 movies stacked on my shelf to watch. 😳 I am soooo behind on movies. Maybe Furiosa?
