On changes to #NIH indirect rates, there is a law in place that prohibits NIH from making such changes without the approval of Congress. See Division D, Title II Section 224 of The Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024 (Public Law No: 118-47) grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

My response, to myself and others who are STILL wishfully praying that universities will stand up for us, for science, for knowledge, for democracy, despite knowing FULL WELL that they've spent all their resources the past few decades converting these universities into ROI-driven businesses:

I know the feed is flooded with stories about what he's saying. As we learned last time, it can be exhausting trying to keep up with that (and wearing people down is part of strategy). To keep up with *what he actually does* you can check this page: www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

my phone, rubbing salt in a gangrenous wound:

well i don't know what the average professor is afraid of, but on sept 6 this past year i found out that I just hadn't been imaginative enough with my teaching-related fears

Really excited about this new WP. Changing #classification schemes present challenging and hitherto under-appreciated identification challenges. Here is an Adobe AI generated summary of the paper to go along with John's great thread. We look forward to your comments! #econsky #medsky #episky

Frosty stillness at the Cambridge University Botanical Gardens this morning. Hard to stop photographing. This is as wintery as can be expected here, so drinking it in…

exhausted from the relentlessly apeshit musk-bezos-zuck-thiel-whatever-billionaire-du-jour newscycle. And as a professor, I can only wretchedly ponder the indisputable role our elite universities have played in laundering wealth into intelligence
