(Warning: unpopular book opinion ahead) Ratings are such funny things. I just saw that I gave The Night Circus 5* when I read it years ago, but my memory of that book was that it didn’t live up to the hype and I was kinda disappointed in it overall. So why did I give it five stars a decade ago???

A comic from houseplantdraws on Instagram, about growing up evangelical and seeing the things we feared happen

Operation “Actually Read the Nonfiction Books I Own” continues. Having finished Ta-Nehisi Coates’ The Message (yes!!! you should read it!), I’m finally facing Jesus & John Wayne

On r/violinist, person posted that tightening their bow produces a better sound. “I have not read or heard much about tension or tone, but this seems important.”

Why is Noah Kahan’s Stick Season so good? I’ve heard it so many times I should be sick of it by now, but I still love it music.apple.com/us/album/sti...

Target is pushing neutrals this spring as if their entire clothing collection hasn’t been 75% neutrals for the last six years! I am soooo sick of beige. The world is falling apart, let me at least have pretty colors in my clothing

Just saw someone spell “rage bait” as “raigbait” and that had to be on purpose, right?

I’ve been using StoryGraph side-by-side with Goodreads for just over a year now, and much as I love it, it’s still missing a couple of features clunky Goodreads does better: 1) The ability to zoom in on covers. Why StoryGraph only shows thumbnails and won’t let me expand the pic is beyond me

We are delighted to announce a new Six-Week Workshop scholarship for Trans writers. The Sea Star Scholarship, an annual full-tuition scholarship for the Six-Week Workshop, has been offered by an anonymous donor and will be available for the first time this year.

Do I know the difference between canon and cannon? Of course. I’m a former theology nerd and a classical musician with too many degrees, I know four different definitions for canon alone. Do I also constantly misspell the words at just the wrong moment? All. The. Time.

Watching the playback of the Melodi Grand Prix, the show to decide Norway’s Eurovision 2025 song, and someone holds up a great big sign that just says “The Game”

Going through hundreds of other people's libraries, one begins to be unsurprised by what one finds there. This, though, is devastating. The man who owned this bookshop was in an internment camp as a child, because he was an American in China during World War II. I think this is a map of the camp.

We don't misgender anyone. Not even people we don't like. Not even people who misgender us. We don't treat being gendered correctly as a reward for good behavior. Ever.

Seat belts, everyone 💚 If you’re on the struggle bus, please remember your seat belt (your seat belt is self-care). It is NOT selfish to prioritize your mental health, take care of you. Visit your local library or favorite bookstore, watch your comfort show, drink some water, pet all the dogs… 💚

I’m guessing “but I don’t wanna!!!” is not going to cut it as a justification for not leaving the house to go to work in this frigid weather

Hey, what's up with books having sprayed edges these days? LET ME TELL YOU THE STORY! I was there! Thread: 1/13

YOU MUST DO YOUR STRETCHES TO HAVE STRENGTH TO GRIND YOUR ENEMIES' BONES TO DUST.

Hi all - today, I’m sharing part of myself that’s been secret (because of the stigma attached). But IMO, it’s important to fight that stigma. Every day, I take a doctor-prescribed second-generation antipsychotic, and it’s truly life-saving medicine. It took > 15 years to find a treatment that works.

Happy Presidents’ Day! Let’s aim for 100 weird facts about presidents, presidential elections, and maybe even vice presidents. 1. Lincoln and Washington are — as far as I know — the only two presidents to have been sculpted topless. (But please send others if they exist!)

In case you were wondering what your musician friend is thinking in the middle of a concert: - what should I eat after the show? - Oooh, that went better than rehearsal - The concertmaster needs a haircut - Oooh, that went worse than rehearsal - *embarrassing thing from when I was 15* (1/2)

We will always have Gritty on our side. And everyone knows not to fuck with Gritty.

Women don't get pockets because our clothing needs to have a sleek silhouette. In the meantime, men walk around wearing skinny jeans with pockets containing three phones, a car key fob the size of a small child, and a wallet crammed full of whatever it is guys carry. Pokémon cards? idek

In this #nuntastic version she stays at the convent, teaches the novices the Guidonian hand, and asks for her guitar after waking from an ecstasy. But instead of sending the children to bed singing, it’s her job to keep them awake all night singing (fortified by the dried cherries in her satchel)

my mother has informed me that the first 6 chapters of the book are excellent and I should just sell these to a publisher while I write the ending and then make them bid against other publishers for that part so that's the business plan now folks

go.bsky.app/ALbjGXE It’s a good day to follow Indigenous authors and Indigenous book industry folks. Follow and share! 💕

A simple shift from "I told you so" to "I was scared this would happen" is an opening. Follow that up with, "how can I help" and links and numbers to immigrant rights orgs, labor orgs, and community health and you are, in fact, building solidarity.

This morning’s reading I don’t remember who recommended this recently, but this is absolutely the delightful middle grade fantasy I was promised. Wonderful characters, silly situations, heart!

Happy Valentine’s Day! Here’s an audiobook excerpt from THE RIVER HAS ROOTS, narrated by Gem Carmella, with my sister & me singing “Tarweedeh Shmaali,” or “The Lovers’ Hymn,” in the background.

If one more person tells me that taking in news when and in ways that protect my mental health is “sticking my head in the sand like everyone else,” I am truly going to scream I know that the house is on fire. Making sure I can breathe is the ONLY way I can make a difference going forward
