I have been recommending this book to everyone for years, on the strength of the podcast interviews Du Mez did when it was released. So I have a pretty good idea what it covers, just haven’t actually read it yet 🙃

The topic of this book cuts so close to my own life, I haven’t had the heart to read it yet.
But this current administration is stealing enough, I’m not letting it steal my love for reading or my intellectual curiosity

Congratulations, OP, on discovering that yes, you SHOULD tighten your bow before you play. It’s almost like the things we teachers say in the very first lessons might actually have a basis in reality
(Am I posting here so I don’t snark over on the subreddit? Yes, yes I am.)

StoryGraph’s overall look is much cleaner & graphs are fab! Seeing specific aspects of plotting, characters, & general feel is great. Randomized view of the TBR list means I find treasures buried deep in the list that I wouldn’t get to otherwise. So I love StoryGraph! But not tossing Goodreads yet

2) Weird sorting of author lists of books: often some of an author’s most popular works will be hidden down below random story anthologies. I don’t know how Goodreads usually gets this right and StoryGraph doesn’t

I swear there’s, like, an entire handful of books I left off this list. 2025 is a good year for good books!

If you equate silence on social media re: a disaster with complicity in it, I'm going to assume you think posting your take on every disaster IS action -- and there is really nothing I can say to that without breaking promises I've made about how to behave in these times.
