Bikes complement transit and walking more than they compete with them: https://video.canadiancivil.com/videos/watch/3d05e061-4dfa-4ccf-bb5e-73050a0dba8d

Another zen Quiet Nerd overnight camping video. In today's episode, he games playing Portal 2 on his Steamdeck with a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and stereo inside a tent with a clear top with a 7 inch snow forecast. As always, big battery powers the electrical, including his 2nd use of a diesel […]

The linked lawsuit is a wild read... "...these Toronto Dominion insiders... These assurances were inconsistent with the fact that during that time they were permitting the Bank to operate as a criminal enterprise with the largest money laundering operation in the history of the United States." […]

Now I want to hear that the icemaker at TD Garden put a toonie under centre ice. #hnom

Stumbled across this in my YouTube feed. Sabine Hossenfelder, who I didn't know, calling out high-energy physicists for essentially deceiving the public. I'm 28 years out from a PhD in physics (condensed matter theory, high Tc superconductors) & I recall this question of justifying the value […]

There is something zen about watching this guy... he builds little electric vehicles and drives out into the bush and camps. This episode he winter camps on the lake. For dinner he makes a ramen soup and puts some Pillsbury biscuits into the top of the soup and steams them. Breakfast is […]

Words of wisdom about the difference between #idea and #execution and between #making and #manufacturing https://hackaday.com/2025/02/05/making-products-for-fun-and-probably-no-profit/

How much of humankinds' activities are governed under a mutual agreement/understanding as to the definition of money, particularly the US dollar. The core system that defines it, then, holds the stability of the modern world in its state. Change the definition or change the understanding of […]

It is especially encouraging that every American I hear/see on the Fediverse sympathizes and encourages us Canadians. We have a common interests and a common enemy, Trump. #tariffs #canada #us

Can you trust America? Apparently not.

It seems to me that Canadians are generally much more aware of America and our relationship with them than Americans' awareness of Canada and their relationship with us. There will be a wakeup here and it will be south of the border.

As an Albertan I am ok with cutting off the taps to the US. Whether that be absolute or via high tariffs. And by all means send money to O&G workers.

Still waiting for Canada's response to the Trump tariffs

There is not avoiding the pain and harm of Trump tariffs and the only sane response is to hit back hard in pointed ways. Massive tariff on Tesla is pointed, but probably not that painful. Putting a 10-20% export tariff on oil & gas exported to the US is very pointed and makes sure that their […]

RESIST https://social.coop/@MichaelTBacon/113918703675202297

My city councillor, Jasmine Mian, has announced that she will not be running for re-election this fall. I am disappointed because I thought she does a great job representing us, but I understand her reasoning. I despise the actions of our provincial UCP government. They are actively ruining […]

Imagine living in late 2010 and someone from 2025 coming in a time machine as and saying "In the year 2025 within days of being inaugurated, the President of the United States will rename and repurpose a unit of the Executive Office of the President to the United States DOGE Service." […]

Dumb question for technical people. HTML obviously does a for of inclusion with CSS and Javascript allowing you to factor out common elements of those two languages. But it occurred to me that it does not allow the same for HTML, which seems odd on the face of it. I admit I have not looked […]

"The Sounds of Sirens" would have been a perfect title for this very insightful piece by Chris Hayes. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2025/01/attention-valuable-resource/681221/ #attention #capitalism #labour

Fun fact. Have you heard about the nasal cycle, an alternation of the amount and speed of airflow through either side the nose with a period of about 2.5 hours? I had noticed it in myself forever ago but had never heard anyone talk about it until some day in the last 10 years I searched for it […]

Another excellent #winter #biking video by Shifter https://video.canadiancivil.com/videos/watch/32303165-fdb7-4ed8-8e84-cb11c4c51737

Am I the only person who's never heard the phrase "Sunday term"? From context I gather it refers to basic political nouns that you'd hear a lot on the Sunday political tv shows? https://mastodon.social/@NewsMatik/113868195750329071
