For this one I wanted another design with "final boss vibes" and had a vague concept from the beginning. The design came from a dream I once had, where this thing's cocoon was sitting on a beach, it broke out, and all hell broke loose. #art #creaturedesign #monsterdesign

For this one I wanted to do another unconventional creature shape, and quickly had the idea to do a land manta ray. I was flip-flopping between having it float via air gusts or magnetism, and in the end I think magnetism was the right choice. #art #creaturedesign #monsterdesign

For this design I wanted to make a unconventional water-based design, with it creating steam vents and explosions. Given the volcanic region it inhabits, I settled on a sulfur theme. The snail idea came from me wanting to use a more uncommon creature body type. #art #creaturedesign #monsterdesign

Trans rights are human rights. Come what may, I will never stop loving and cherishing all my LGBTQ homies. You will always have a seat at my table and a cushion on my couch.

TRANS RIGHTS 🏳️‍⚧️

This creature is another inhabiting my volcanic region, and the setting's final Amphiptere for now. This one is based heavily around gargoyle imagery, with fire element being the perfect fit. Somehow, the weird ideas I had for this one came together in the end. #art #creaturedesign #monsterdesign

Every artist I know is really struggling right now. Financially, emotionally, their confidence, in general. If you like an artist's work, support them any way you can. Buying their stuff or subscribing to their Patreon is great, but words of encouragement are also incredibly helpful.

This is the first design I made for my setting's volcanic region. Knowing that I'd make other creatures using fire and water elements, for this one I went with earth, and more specifically, liquid metal. Of my current designs I view this one as a "main character". #art #creaturedesign #monsterdesign

This one is another redesign of an older concept. My skill level at the time wasn't at a point where I could execute my vision properly. This version works much better, and gained a more bestial appearance than before, which fits its personality well. #art #creaturedesign #monsterdesign

This one is a redesign of an older concept I had. This one is another Amphiptere, using its tail as a lightning rod. The design really came together when I came up with the taser-like fangs as one of its methods of attacks. #art #creaturedesign #monsterdesign

I had the idea of a scorpion-inspired creature in mind for a long time, but this design is very different from my initial idea. This design began life being inspired by the mythological hydra, and the other elements came together to elevate that aspect. #art #creaturedesign #monsterdesign

Figured I'd mention it since I updated my website: My commissions are open! Details are available on: voltrai.carrd.co Contact via DM or Discord #art #artcommissions #monsterdesign #creaturedesign #furryart

For my first piece of 2025, I decided to revisit this design in the form of a full painting! The space-themed background came together better than expected, with me making minimal changed from the image I exported from Blender.

After I had the reworked design for Teuminwis done, I knew I wanted to create a rival monster of some kind, and began to brainstorm some ideas. Eventually, I landed on a wolf with earth-based abilities and a paladin aesthetic. #creaturedesign

Make art that you think is fuckin sick as hell. Make the shit you never thought you could that you always wanted to see. Beat your insecurity to death and fight to become your own favorite artist.

Just be prepared. We've all seen that headline going around today that Bluesky is the current #1 app, and X dropped out of the top 25. That means the absolute worst people in the world are going to be coming here trying to turn THIS place into just as much of a shithole. Block them. Don't engage.

Always 💖 Don't make me tap the sign

When people say blue sky’s dead what they mean is they show up expecting instant followers based on pre existing fame (usually gained from bullshit rage farming) and leave when they don’t get it Or B, they realize the culture here doesn’t thrive off of bullshit rage farming nor reward it and leave.

I wanted to mess around with the idea of "fighter jet/rocket but dragon" for a little while now, and I finally got around to making it! Throw in some shooting star theming and I think the design stands out nicely. Very happy with this one.

For this one I wanted a creature that would stick the bones of its prey onto its own body. At first that idea was based around tar, but I found tree sap and amber to give a more interesting and unique aesthetic.

This one was a redesign for a concept I made a while back. The basic idea was to make something with "Final Boss Vibes" and I settled on a design inspired by biblically accurate angels. I wanted to give it an "otherworldly" feel compared to my other designs, and I think that worked out well.

I struggled quite a bit with this one. I knew the general body shape that I wanted, that being a winged snake, or Amphiptere, but I wasn't sure where to go from there. I made a simple sculpt in ZBrush, and then sketched out the rest.

I pushed myself out of my comfort zone a lot with this one, making a super detailed piece as opposed to "just" a concept. Super proud of this one still! I made a basic desert in Blender before moving over to Clip studio and painting the rest.

This one was sitting in my backlog for a while, with the description simply being "Wasp Monster". Even if the concept was more straightforward, I'm still happy with this.

For this one I wanted a cat-based design as part of my setting, and after a while, what I settled on was a primarily aquatic creature, using pressurized water as a form of defense. This is also one of the few designs I sculpted (or tried to) in ZBrush.

This one was also made as part of a class. It was a pretty new experience for my to do so many explorations of shape and colour (something I'm still not the best at) but it was pretty interesting to try and think of new ways to make the design!

This design was made in roughly 2 hours. I was in a call with someone and we decided to make designs using the same plant/animal inspirations. My version ended up as a herbivore for my setting!

I wanted to do a plant monster for a really long time, so I was pretty happy when I finally found a fun way to do it. The backwards wings were an accident at first, but I liked them quite a bit, so I kept them for the final version!

Regarding me making woke games

This one is one of the more dangerous creatures in my setting. It lives in the depths of the ocean, only coming up to land very occasionally. I made it as the demon counterpart to an angel inspired design I had made previously, with the lore being that the two are rivals.

This one was made for the creature design class as well, this time for the exam. I went with a creature that lives in caves, using paralytic venom to hunt. At the time I really wanted to make something with dinosaur proportions and shapes, and this was the final result!

This one was made as part of a creature design class I took part in. We decided on a creature that would eat blood, live in the mountains and be used as a mount. I liked the design enough to make it a part of my setting!

Time for some more creature design posts! These are for a personal project of mine, focused on creatures specifically! This one is Teuminwis, a fox creature with a demon aesthetic! It's by far the design I've reworked most of my current roster, but this newest version is one I'm pretty happy with.

MONSTER HUNTER: WILDS

Taking a break from posting fanart, it's time to show off some original work! This is a monster design for my personal project, an ape-like creature known as the Simalaya! I've got some older designs I want to post in the future too, so stay tuned for that! #creaturedesign #monsterdesign
