Pathfinding now supports ladders! Prepare to be chased #pixelart #indiegame #gamedev #roguelike

Custom NES dust sleeves in the works. What if Nintendo let form follow function? Definitely needs adjustments.

no more fear no more pain only gamecube harvest moon cow

I'm alive! I've been having a rough time – breakups, house moves, my laptop died (everything is in the cloud). Finally settling in, but we only got heating today and I'm still without wifi. Getting back to work on Orange Island ASAP! I was on a hot streak in the autumn, I'll try to get back there.

Enjoy the view ^^ #screenshotsaturday #pixelart #gamedev

The dashed line is 8 x 8, and the solid square line is 16 x 16 representing the palette boundary. In other words, this 16 x 16 frame is composed of three colors (plus one color without), and the BG is drawn with a total of 13 colors in four palettes (3 x 4 + 1 color without) for the entire screen.

The NES game “MetalSladerGlory”. After being given the go-ahead by Mr. Satoru Iwata, development of the game began in earnest. I wrote the rest of the game scenario first, and HAL Labs built the program to realize the game system I had conceived. #pixelart #NES

Who else enjoys reading patch notes for games they've never played...?

Took a rare weekend off from working on Orange Island. Trying not to beat myself up too much 🥴😅

Working on the classic boss warning screen 👾 Will add text scrolling if we can pull it off! #pixelart #nesdev #gamedev

A little national landscaping in #Denmark. Planning stages, but with the $ now earmarked. World-scanning for any kind of progress or objectively positive work can be a balm right now. apnews.com/article/denm...

"Buy me Slaughter for the NES or go to hell!" This is not bearably playable but... it's a tile-based FPS on the NES with elevation, and it uses NO MAPPERS. This is just the raw 1983 hardware

I was working on a Vampire Survivors-like Orange Island spinoff earlier in the year, I'd love to revisit it some day.

Wrapping up my particle effects ✨ #nesdev #gamedev

New tattoo idea: Zoop pieces!

Our 4 megabit #NES cartridge is nearly full! Our programmer is heroically squeezing in space for the final code and gfx. Seeking more #indiegame and #homebrew starter packs to join! @gamemistress.bsky.social @rikoclon.bsky.social @pearacidicgames.com @bigevilboss.bsky.social @adam16bit.bsky.social

this is my passion project, angel's nest. a folk-horror survival rpg set in an alternative, pre-colonial africa.

A little intro post... I'm Ted, I live by the sea with my cat, and I'm working on Orange Island with @langel.bsky.social! #nesdev

One trick up my sleeve for project 'borscht'. On the NES, you typically achieve "parallax scrolling" by splitting the single BG layer in horizontal bands; scrolled apart. That means no overlap allowed. This scene achieves that anyway by 2 subtle sprite layer placements (the lowest hanging stars)

Finalising my palettes for the boss sequences! 🎨 We have an amazing handful of boss music by @lena.fyi, Hiroki Kikuta, and Heosphoros 👏 #gamedev #nesdev

Why choose between syrup and chocolate when you can have both? :D

people who use goodreads: jeff bezos owns goodreads and if you want a better alternative there is a black woman owned company called storygraph that you can use to replace it. you can transfer all of your data from goodreads to storygraph and have your mind be free of trumpie jeff bezos! win win. 💙

Finally got around to watching Perfect Blue, what a movie. It actually felt really giallo-y to me, anyone else?

I booked the week off work, so that I can focus on Super Sunny World full-time for a bit. My goal is to crank out the final boss of the game. Once that is done, I'll be in the home stretch with only FUN stuff left to do (I really don't like coding bosses). Wish me luck! #nesdev

some monsters

today's original rogue monster is the ostrich. (it was originally 'orc'.)

I don't even know how I did this, but maybe I should keep it?

Orange Island #nesdev updated: getting 32 things to fly around a scene is one thing; making them interact correctly as entities is another. Finally feeling comfy to really start coding all object behaviors. About half done with everything in this first scene!
