Welcome to Japan! Former Met Michael Conforto hits a HR against Giants in exhibition at Tokyo Dome.

This letter appeared in the Bloomsburg PA Press Enterprise this morning. I am assured the writer is who he purports to be, an Air Force veteran.

It seems that Trump, Musk, Vance, Miller, et al. think that they are buffered from suffering and death, and so they are willing to bring them on to affect those they loathe politically, even if they also strike their supporters. This is hard-heartedness, callousness, sociopathology.

Elon Musk posted a photo of Japanese cherry blossoms and received a Japanese language community note pointing out it was taken without permission from the Instagram page of a Japanese photographer. This is the second time that Musk has posted photos from the same user without permission or credit.

The only reason Trumpism works is because it’s identity-based, not policy-based. It’s not about logic—it’s about belonging to a group that thrives on shared outrage. Logic won’t fix it. They believe in a world that doesn’t exist and see no problem in the fact that they can’t prove what they say.

Just read The NY Times obit for Tomiko Itooka, by Martin Fackler — which notes that he is the acting Tokyo bureau chief. I guess there can be repeat performances.

Thankfully not all of the lanterns at Hongaku-ji are in kanji.
