The world is laughing at the shitshow that is the US

'Shameful day for U.S.': Expert stunned after Trump sides with 'war criminal' Putin Longtime Washington Post columnist David Ignatius almost speechless on MSNBC after watching Trump spew flagrant falsehoods about Russia's invasion of Ukraine while siding with Putin www.rawstory.com/trump-putin-...

“We must especially beware of that small group of selfish men who would clip the wings of the American eagle in order to feather their own nests.” -FDR, 1941

Today is International Day of Women & Girls in Science. Marie Curie, the first woman to win a Nobel Prize. Her contributions have left an indelible mark on the world of science & health & continue to inspire generations of scientists & innovators. 🔬 #WomenInScience #WomenInSTEM

Excellent attitude and advice for scientists and scholars and their institutions. Nice to see @royalsociety.org coat of arms with motto “nullius in verba” cited as the exhortation to carry on questioning and seeking evidence for the truth.

Today in 1461 young Edward of York routed the Lancastrians, under Tudor leadership, at Mortimer's Cross. There was a parhelion, like this one I saw a few years back. It panicked the Lancastrians but Edward thought quickly & told his men it represented the Trinity; clearly God was on their side.

Amazing phenomenon

Nice caption as well as beautiful bird

Couldn't agree more with Paul Nurse that “Research institutes and units play a unique, beneficial role in the UK’s RDI landscape and this sector should be expanded....” So the MRC should rethink their regressive decision to close MRC Units. www.science.org/content/arti...

www.theguardian.com/media/2018/j... Unbelievably, a new Tory-nominated member of the House of Lords!

Watching KAVLI PRIZE 2024 winners chat with @adamrutherford.bsky.social and @vivienneparry.bsky.social 8 of them on astrophysics, nanoscience and neuroscience. Lovely. Still listening now. It’s an hour long www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMvq...

Spectacular black and white marine mosaic in the women’s changing room (apodyterium) at the Central Baths, ancient Herculaneum. Triton with dolphins, cherub, octopus and cuttlefish. 1st century AD. Modern changing rooms could do with a Roman style upgrade! 📷 by me #MosaicMonday #Archaeology

As an old night owl I have fairly recently learnt to use send at 08.00 next morning. Also possible to send any set time in my mail facility (Apple)

Absolutely. The retina is amazing. According to Darwin the eye is an “organ of extreme perfection” and he was concerned about how the human eye could have arisen by natural selection from simpler versions in more distant species.

Another pandemic brewing? Is the UK ready?

Always a thought-leader and pioneer! Never change

@gensocuk.bsky.social great to see the very deserving awards announced at the GenSoc November meeting which sadly I was unable to get to. It is still the Society which speaks most eloquently to me. Always engaging meetings.

Congratulations Kathy!

Congratulations to @nickywhiffin.bsky.social on being awarded the Balfour Lecturer! Her innovative contributions on the role of genetic variants in rare diseases are shaping the future of research and discovery. We look forward to her inspiring lecture! genetics.org.uk/medals-and-p...

Congratulations Greg!

Congratulations Josephine!

Better late than never: just discovered recorded talks and seminars from UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. Could not attend a session I really wanted to hear earlier today. Listening, felt so proud to be part of this community. What fantastic work from: Mariya Moosajee, Marinko Sarunic, Mandeep Sagoo

#MedicineAtTheCrick very excited to be here hearing about New Frontiers in Drug Discovery.

Absolutely agree and support the condemnation
