The moment Mohsen Mahdawi was released from ICE custody in Vermont.

Vancouver is grieving, the Filipino community is shattered. Here are resources "for the families enduring unimaginable pain, for the survivors healing from visible and invisible wounds, and for a community that now bears an even heavier burden of grief." docs.google.com/document/u/2...

Much love for Filipinx comrades and community impacted by horrific violence during Lapu-Lapu Day celebrations. For ppl seeking support such as meal train or counseling, you can access resources thru Filipinx-led mutual aid network coming together. Share widely: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

“The three individuals who ran that DEI office in the medical faculty — all of whom are members of racialized minorities — are being replaced by a single person who does not come from such a minority background” Why are Canadian institutions bending a knee and complying in advance?

Amazing how determined Columbia is to crater its own reputation and eject itself from the top strata of US universities. Is there someone on the board/a donor who is causing this exceptional institutional self-immolation that other (conservative) Ivies are somehow avoiding?

It looks very much like the Department of Homeland Security memo seeking to revoke Ozturk's visa copied language directly from the Canary Mission website. Is DHS just following the "deport list" from an anonymous website? donmoynihan.substack.com/p/the-attack...

this is unspeakably fucking evil. just another level of technofascism

My weekly curated list of must-read articles and some final thoughts for the week. "To keep as many of us alive and free as possible, we are going to have to recognize the nature of the fight we’re waging, and we are going to have to refuse characterizations that deem some of us disposable."

It is easier to take away the 'right to have rights' than any individual human right. This has always been the logical conclusion of the doctrine of sovereign migration control. It is just now moving closer to home...

A Michigan lawyer and US citizen was detained by CBP for *representing* a student anti-genocide protester. www.freep.com/story/news/l...

Sotomayor: "The implication of the Government’s position is that not only noncitizens but also United States citizens could be taken off the streets, forced onto planes, and confined to foreign prisons with no opportunity for redress if judicial review is denied unlawfully before removal."

they are the first Chinese-born MP and the first Arab woman in the House of Commons, btw. they are part of a delegation. almost like Israel is specifically targeting minority women.

Article up on the Tempest. This is from a past interview with Ukrainian Solidarity Collectives. tempestmag.org/2025/04/ukra...

Today I, along with over 40 law professors from across the country, sent an open letter to @advocates-soc.bsky.social urging them to reconsider their decision to cancel a planned keynote talk by Tareq Hadhad, a Syrian-Canadian who is widely known as the founder of @peacebychocolate.bsky.social.

Inbox: "A Jewish-led group of Columbia students have chained themselves to the locked campus gates in solidarity with Palestinian students, with 1 demand: the Uni provide the names of the trustees who reported Mahmoud Khalil to ICE... [they] refuse to unchain themselves until [they are answered]"

I have seen many takes about Paul Chiang's comments from the perspective of selling out to China and being a traitor, but more importantly this is about a 28 year ex-Canadian cop wanting co-operate with HK cops to repress protesters. Cops in solidarity with other cops. www.bbc.com/news/article...

The impression I'm getting is that many of the people who are doing that "Ghibli/Miyazaki-style" AI "art" thing have either never watched a Studio Ghibli film or, if they did, are so superficial that they didn't truly understand and appreciate what they saw, nay experienced, when doing so.

Student group I'm in cancelled an event with Skadden.

NEW: @aclu.org obtained ICE's "Alien Enemies Act Validation Guide," confirming all it takes to be sent to rot in prison in El Salvador is being Venezuelan and 1) having a tattoo an ICE officer says is a "gang tattoo" and 2) displaying "logos," "symbols" or clothes an ICE officer says are gang signs.

This piece decrying "the crushing pressure inside [higher ed] to conform with dominant political views" gives two examples. 1) "Only" 60% say it's OK to teach that "efforts to redress racial inequalities represent anti-White racism." 2) Some professors voluntarily bring up climate change in class.

What the campus "free speech" moral panic was about was conservatives (& also white nationalists seeking to expand their reach) demanding no one can get angry or respond to what THEY say, whether through speech, protest, or civil disobedience. So this actually fits with that, not a contradiction.

We have had nearly two decades of panic about Free Speech on Campus and not a single case, not even the ones they made up, were as bad as what's happening now

Read that again. More than *300* students have had their visas revoked and are subject to deportation for speaking back against genocide in Palestine, actions in step with the worst authoritarian regimes in the world. International students and scholars in the US are increasingly unsafe.

I mean, if folks can be disappeared and deported for criticizing Israel, it only makes sense that folks can be disappeared and deported for criticizing the United States.

Seems pretty fascism-y

Getting harder and harder to call Columbia a legitimate university.

The Davis Faculty Association's letter today: "Compliance will not save our institutions. The UC system must continue to stand by its stated values and refuse to enable the targeting of students for imprisonment and deportation for their political views." ucdfa.org/2025/03/call...

Good News! Supervised Consumption Sites has been granted an injunction, allowing us to stay open until the court makes its final decision. This is a huge step forward in our fight to protect life-saving harm reduction services. Thank you to everyone who has supported us!

Thank you to Dalhousie Law Journal for having me on their latest podcast episode to talk about racial capitalism and international student policy in Canada. A perfect alternative for those who don't have time to read an entire paper! open.spotify.com/episode/1XYs...

New from Rumeysa Ozturk's lawyer: Rumeysa hasn't been accused of any crime & "DHS has not produced any evidence" that she did anything unlawful. Rumeysa wasn't able to speak to her lawyer for 24+ hours & not until after she was in Louisiana — despite a court order that she not be moved from Mass.

ICE kidnapping people off the streets over op eds, anyone perceived as a "gang member" shipped to a hard labor camp without any legal proceedings... It's not even a little subtle what's happening. I'm just devastated beyond words

Private equity will protect the private equity class

BREAKING: The AAUP & chapters @ Harvard, Rutgers, & NYU; & the Middle East Studies Association today filed a lawsuit to block the Trump admin from carrying out arrests, detentions, & deportations of students & faculty who participate in pro-Palestinian protests & protected 1st Amendment activities.

the law clinic repping this student, CLEAR, is based out of CUNY.....once again the public city university absolutely flounces the ivy league when it comes to having a backbone and standing on actual principles

Fascinating the outrage is all about leaking information on a Signal chat and not outrage towards the information - that is, you know, bombing another sovereign country

Do not let the world look away. Keep fighting, keep telling our stories—until Palestine is free." - For the last time, Hossam Shabat, from northern Gaza. 23 and he knew to leave a death note.

Hey. Focus. The Oscar-winning co-director of NO OTHER LAND was just "lynched" by settlers and abducted by IDF soldiers in the West Bank. This was witnessed first-hand by his co-director.
